Problems with 50MHz 486

From what I can remember, the first batch of 50MHz 486DX chips had some serious heat issues, and I believe intel issued a recall. I am pretty certain Intel switched production of the 50MHz part over to a smaller die size to fix the problem.

50MHz parts were only popular with ISA and EISA systems. It was very hard to build a 50MHz VLB or PCI system. Therefore the 50MHz DX/2s are far more common.

Intel A80486DX-50 Awesomeness

The year was 1992. My First PC. It was an EISA bus with 8 MBs of Ram and an ATI SpeedStar EISA video card w/8MBs of video memory. I added my own TAG memory ( motherbord cache 64k? [8 chips x 8k]) Installed were DOS and Windows 3.1. Price tag-$3200.00- What a machine!!!!!!!!!!! (speed was comparable to the limited pre-tested release of the 1st pentium.
