Intel 80C187 FPU familyIntel 80C187 is a math co-processor for
80C186 microprocessor family. The
80C187 does not support 80C188 and NMOS 80186/80188 CPUs. The 80C187
operates very similar to the Intel 8087 - it
monitors address and data buses, and processes only FP instructions (see
8087 page for more information). The co-processor has a way or
reporting its state (busy or ready) to the CPU - as a result
WAIT (FWAIT) instruction is not required to perform synhcronization
between the CPU and the FPU.
The 80C187 executes all 8087 floating-point instructions. In addition to these instructions the 80C187 includes 10 new instructions: Unordered compare, partial remainder and rounding, and transcedental instructions. Execution time of individual FP instructions on 80C187 is somewhat different from the 8087, but the average execution time is about the same. Production parts![]() 12 MHz
