May 04, 2012: In January Intel launched "Medfield" platform, aimed at
tablets and smartphone devices. "Medfield" systems on a chip (SoC) are built on 32nm technology,
and integrate Atom CPU along with SGX 540 graphics, memory controller, video and audio units,
and peripheral controllers. Current lineup of SoCs includes
Z2460 SKU. Intel also announced plans to release Z2580, twice as
powerful as the Z2460, as well as Z2000 budget model. Fudzilla and
VR-Zone reported about another Medfield product with processor number
Z2610, that should perform on the same level as the Z2460. According to
Fudzilla the Z2610 SoC will be available in the second quarter. The launch
in the second quarter was confirmed by recently released Intel's
public roadmap.
Intel launches D2500 and D2700 Atom CPUs
Sep 26, 2011: Next generation Atom platform, codenamed Cedar Trail, is here.
Major of new feature of new platform is a switch from 45nm to 32nm
technology, which should result in lower power consumption, and allow
new Atoms to reach higher clock frequencies. Other advantages of new
Atom chips include improved on-chip graphics, supposedly supporting
DirectX 10.1, support for HDMI and embedded DisplayPort, on-chip decoding of
various HD video formats, and faster memory access.
Prices and launch date of 32nm Atom CPUs
May 24, 2011: Today Fudzilla
published prices and approximate launch date of first
32nm Atom processors. As you may know, these Atom CPUs are
part of Intel Cedar Trail platform, which includes "Cedarview-D"
chips, aimed at nettops and ultra-low power desktops, and
"Cedarview-M" microprocessors for netbooks and other mobile devices.
Intel 32nm Cedar Trail Atom CPUs to launch in Q4 2011
May 04, 2011: It's been three years since the launch of first Atom processors
built on 45nm Bonnell microarchitecture. Over time, the Atoms added more
features, such as two CPU cores, on-chip graphics, Intel 64 and
Virtualization, and others, but the latest Atom chips still use the
same 0.045 micron process. Last year it was rumored that the first
32nm Atom chips from Cedar Trail platform will launch in the second
half 2011. Last Friday, Anandtech
confirmed 4th quarter launch date for the platform, and disclosed
details on two processors, D2500 and D2700.
Fudzilla revealed today two other CPUs
from the Cedar Trail platform - N2600 and N2800.
