A: No. BGA processors, like this one, are soldered on a motherboard, for that reason upgrading or replacing them is very very difficult.

Intel discontinues Xeon and Atom processors
Jun 05, 2012: Intel today announced discontinuation of large number of Atom and Xeon microprocessors. By the end of this year, the company is going to retire 45nm Atom CPUs with "Pineview" core. Furthermore, Intel will discontinue Xeon 3400-series chips for single-socket workstations, and Xeon MPs from 6500 and 7500 series. Most of End-of-Lifed microprocessors were introduced in the second half of 2009 and the first half of 2010.

I own a pineview

I got the pineview processor with an acer aspire one and I am pretty happy with it, It has a lot of power for the price and is worth buying for mobile use for real!

I can watch movies, most (non-HD) sites with multimedia play very well (HD is slow and laggy on windows 7, but is nice in linux).

Response: This is due to Hyper-Threading technology. This technology adds ability to process two threads at once, as a result the CPU is viewed by operating system as having two logical processors (cores).

It may be worth noting that this processor/these processors/the NM10 chipset is capable of dynamic scaling of the FSB, similar to Socket P solutions. I stuck a 2GB PC2-6400 stick in my Acer Aspire AOD260 alongside the N450, and though it is operating at 667 MHz, it works fine--much better than with the original 1GB PC2-5300, though I can't speak to whether a 2GB PC2-5300 stick would be faster.

My mistake--my Acer Aspire AOD260 originally came with a PC2-6400 stick as I had originally thought, so this RAM is definitely supported/supportable. :)

I've got Acer Aspire One model 532h with Atom N450 processor. Even though it says it officially supports DEP (aka NX-bit/XD-bit), my computer processor doesn't seem to support it. See attached.

FSB Confusion

This processor is confusing me with regards to its FSB/DMI. Some sources like Intel state a DMI speed of 2.5GT/s while others state a 667MHz FSB, and others even say 533MHz FSB. A relative had an MSI U130 netbook and CPU-Z displayed the N450 as having a 533MHz FSB. I'm not sure which one to believe.

Hi, i have got an Acer Aspire One D260 which have this CPU and his FSB is 166 MHz. Because the processor uses Quad Data Rate bus the effective bus speed is 667 MHz.
533MHz FSB use the older one, N270.

Response: Atom processors don't use Front Side Bus. They have on-chip memory controller to interface with memory, and Direct Media Interface to communicate with South Bridge, which in turn communicates with all peripherals.
