Dec 12, 2012: Yesterday Intel released Atom S1200 family, and announced S1220,
S1240 and S1260 "Centerton" processors for microservers. The official
press release vaguely stated that the S1200 lineup also targets storage
and networking systems, but failed to provide any details on Atom
products for those devices. Earlier tonight Intel posted updated price
list, which revealed three additional Atom models: S1269, S1279 and
S1289.
Specifications of Briarwood Atom processors
Nov 14, 2012: In September we published details of Centerton products for
microservers. Centerton parts are implemented as a System on a Chip
(SoC), that combines dual-core Atom CPU with DDR3 memory controller
and peripheral controllers, such as PCI Express 2.0, UART, and several
others. The parts will be clocked at 1.6 GHz and 2 GHz, and they were
scheduled to launch this quarter. Next quarter Intel is going to
release Briarwood SoCs, aimed at SBB and SAN based storage devices.
