NewsAMD cuts prices of desktop CPUs
May 01, 2013: Earlier this week AMD announced new processors, expanding the line
of high-end FX CPUs with quad-core FX-4350 and six-core FX-6350.
It's not uncommon for AMD to lower prices when launching new products,
and this time it was not an exception. Based on the latest official AMD price list, the company cut prices of ten A-Series and FX-Series chips
by as much as 19%.
AMD business-class "Trinity" APUs are shipped in Lenovo desktop
Oct 08, 2012: Last week AMD launched second-generation "Trinity" APUs, from
entry-level A4-5300 with 2 CPU cores, and up to A10-5800K with twice
as many cores, 4 times larger cache, unlocked clock multiplier and 3
times as many GPU shaders. In addition to these consumer-oriented
products, several business-class "Trinity" processors
started
shipping in Lenovo ThinkCentre M78 small desktop PC.
Business-class APUs
will
be also available in HP Compaq Pro 6305 PC.
AMD introduces retail "Trinity" APUs for desktops
Oct 02, 2012: Today AMD officially introduced "Virgo" platform, consisting of six
different "Trinity" Accelerated Processing Units, and three
motherboard chipsets: AMD A55, A75 and A85X. The APUs integrate
2 or 4 CPU cores with discrete-class Radeon HD 7000-series graphics,
which allows them to provide good CPU and GPU performance at a
relatively low price point. As such, these processors are best suited for
entry-level to mid-class media and game systems.
AMD A-Series to launch on October 2, FX-Series on October 23
Sep 25, 2012: While Intel is almost done releasing new desktop processors for the rest
of the year, AMD has only started. Next month we will see new lineups,
based on the latest AMD Piledriver microarchitecture, which is a tweaked for
better performance and power consumption Bulldozer architecture. A-Series
"Trinity" Accelerated Processing Units will target budget / mainstream
segments of the desktop market, and,
according
to SemiAccurate, they will be introduced on October 2.
Pre-order prices of AMD "Trinity" CPUs
Sep 03, 2012: The first generation of AMD Accelerated Processing Units was
based on "Llano" core, that merged Star/K10-based CPU cores with Radeon HD
6000 graphics. The A series processors had average CPU performance,
however, thanks to integrated powerful GPU, they were well suited for graphics
and video applications. In the forth quarter 2012 "Llano" parts will be
replaced with faster second-generation "Trinity" APUs, featuring 1 or
2 Piledriver modules (2 or 4 CPU cores), and Radeon HD 7000-series
graphics unit.
Some details of AMD Piledriver CPUs
Aug 28, 2012: This fall AMD will release large number of new desktop processors,
built on the latest Piledriver microarchitecture. With the exception
of a couple of chips, details of upcoming lineup were known well ahead
of the launch. Yesterday
Expreview
published a slide, titled "2012 Consumer Platform Quick
Reference Guide for Desktops", that confirmed clock frequencies of
upcoming "Piledriver" products, and shed some light on supported
technologies.
AMD "Trinity" APUs pictured; rumored to launch on October 1
Aug 13, 2012: In May AMD launched second-generation Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) with
"Trinity" core. The launch included only mobile
chips, whereas desktop "Trinity" APUs were announced in June, and so
far appeared in only in desktop computers from such OEM manufacturers
as ASUS and HP. Retail "Trinity" products were delayed, and they are
expected in late October. Pictures of these accelerated units were
published today by Japanese website
Hermitage
Akihabara.
HP computers with AMD A8-5500 and A10-5700 APUs sold in US
Jul 01, 2012: In May AMD launched second generation of Accelerated Processing
Units (APU), based on "Trinity" core. The first "Trinity" products were mobile processors, that
were quickly followed by embedded chips. Desktop "Trinity" CPUs
were announced in June,
and their planned availability date in OEM systems was the end of June.
One of these OEM systems, HP Pavilion p7-1235 with AMD A8-5500
processor, is already offered in US. The HP desktop PC is currently
available
on Walmart and Best Buy
online websites.
AMD reveals details of desktop "Trinity" APUs
Jun 11, 2012: In May AMD unveiled first Accelerated Processing Units (APU), based
on "Trinity" core. The launch event didn't include any desktop Trinity
chips, and currently we don't have any reliable information on desktop
processor timeline. Last month's reports placed the desktop
"Trinity" launch in August, and more recent rumors suggest that the
APUs may be pushed back to September or October. Unlike the launch
date, specifications of forthcoming desktop processors were well-known
since February, and earlier last week they were published by AMD.
AMD to launch Brazos 2.0 in June, desktop APUs in August
May 14, 2012: This and next quarter AMD plans to release new generation of Accelerated Processing Units
(APUs). Soon to be available microprocessors will use enhanced
microarchitecture, and feature significantly improved on-chip graphics,
codenamed Graphics Core Next. There were a couple of reports in the past
month, placing the launch of first mobile APUs in the middle of May.
Release date for mobile APUs was
confirmed
last week by DigiTimes. They also revealed launch dates of desktop
APUs, and ultra low voltage processors from Brazos 2.0 platform.
AMD Trinity Desktop APU Specs Revealed
Feb 15, 2012: Our last report on the upcoming Trinity APU gave details of part numbers for the Trinity range, including Brazos 2.0 and Vishera. Donanimhaber have now leaked further details, with a slide showing specs for the Trinity A-Series APUs. Trinity will use a new socket, FM2, which is similar to FM1 with a few pins repositioned, and it will have a Piledriver CPU core, which is the updated Bulldozer core.

Now I can return older-tech HP desktop some Frys salesman steered me into without minding their 15% restocking fee and sales trip. Amd A8-55002012-07-24 00:02:25 Posted by: Danny Really great processor, COD Black ops used to lag with my old Athlon X2 250. Now it runs flawlessly, in very high settings. The werid thing about this APU is that it heats up rather quickly I mean from 64F to 140F in just seconds when playing. THEN!! After 2 hours of playing non stop, I get out of black ops and within 30 seconds the temp drops to 64F. Really amazing I would say havent seen anything like that with past CPUs turbo boost doesn't work2013-04-18 15:36:45 Posted by: Finlandguy my pc has this processor but it's turbo frequency is only 3500 mhz . Whats wrong ? Response: The processor does not run at 3.7 Ghz when 3 or 4 cores are active. If you have only two one core running, then you will need to use better thermal paste, improve you case ventilation, or get better fan/heatsink, preferably not the stock one.
