FAQ
Q: Is there a way to unlock disabled cores on the AMD FX-4100 CPU?
A: No. This processor indeed has 4 disabled cores, but there is no known method to unlock them.
Q: My processor is running 55C under load. Is this normal?
A: Safe CPU temperatures are 60 degrees Celsius and below. It may
still run fine with CPU temperatures, exceeding 60C threshold by a
few degrees. Running the FX-4100 close to 70 degrees and higher is not
recommended.
Q: Is it possible to upgrade my AMD FX-4100 microprocessor?
A: Probably yes. CPU compatibility is determined by your motherboard. Please see CPU-Upgrade.com website for CPU support list for your board.

Front view. The box has new design: it's white with red AMD logo, which is why it doesn't look good when picture is taken on white background. The box is wider and deeper than A-Series boxes, but the height is the same. Larger box size is primarily due to larger fan/heatsink, which is of better quality than A-series heasinks. The fan/heatsink for FX-4000 series has copper core, although the core doesn't cover full surface of the CPU, and the heatsink doesn't have heat pipes. |

AMD to drop prices, launch FX-4130 CPU on August 27
Aug 24, 2012: AMD today updated A-Series, FX-Series and Phenom II pricing pages,
lowering prices on full range of "Llano" APUs, and high performance
K10 and "Bulldozer" CPUs. The pages shows effective date August
27, which suggests that the price drops will happen next Monday.
Overall, the prices were cut by 1% - 23%.
AMD introduces first "Bulldozer" FX processors
Oct 12, 2011: Today AMD launched Bulldozer micro-architecture, and first four FX
desktop microprocessors. Bulldozer microarchitecture takes radically
different approach than previous generation of K10 chips, and, instead
of separate cores, integrates from 2 to 4 modules. Each module
contains two CPU cores, that share some circuitry, such as instruction
level 1 cache, Floating-Point Unit and level 2 cache.
Bits and pieces: AMD FX-4100 pre-order price, boxed 960T is available
Oct 09, 2011: AMD FX-Series of microprocessors, based on not yet released
Bulldozer core, will be launched in a few days. One of upcoming
models, AMD FX-4100, emerged in several US online stores at the end of
September. Tray version of this CPU was listed for $180 - $190, and at
the time we estimated that its official price
could be close to AMD FX-6100 model. Since then, the price was
lowered, and the CPU is now listed for $120.68
on Provantage.com, and for $130.20 on Bottom Line
Telecommunications website.
AMD FX-4100 is available for pre-order
Sep 28, 2011: Several consumer processors, based on upcoming Bulldozer
microarchitecture, are coming in the 4th quarter 2011. The
microprocessors from FX-Series will be aimed at computer enthusiast
market, and will feature 4, 6 or 8 cores, and unlocked clock multiplier.
Rumored official prices for three of these models, FX-6100, FX-8120
and FX-8150, were published last week, and they range from $175 to
$245.
Gigabyte reveals AMD FX-Series specifications
Sep 02, 2011: As you may already know, later this quarter AMD is going to
launch Bulldozer micro-architecture, that at first will be
used in server Opteron 6200 CPUs, and desktop FX-Series
microprocessors. Specifications of desktop FX-Series were known for
more than a month, and they recently were confirmed by Gigabyte. As was
discovered by VR-Zone, the latest CPU support
list update for several Gigabyte socket AM3+ motherboards includes the
details on all AMD FX-Series SKUs.
