NewsObscure CPUs: AMD Opteron 6275
Nov 18, 2012: One of the popular ways to describe computer performance these days is
to measure how many million instructions per second (MIPS) and
millions of floating-point operations per second (MFLOPS) the computer
can execute. Knowing the MIPS and MFLOPS numbers, as well as what type
of data needs to be processed, one can choose a system that better
suits for specific workload. For instance, the common approach to run
scientific applications is to get a system with higher MFLOPS.
AMD releases Opteron 6200 and 4200 CPUs
Nov 14, 2011: Earlier last week AMD announced "Ready Solutions for servers"
initiative, which aims to provide large selection of compatible
motherboards at the launch of Opteron 6200 series microprocessors
with Interlagos core. Also last week, specifications of several HP
Proliant servers were updated to include new Opterons, and Japanese
Dell website started offering Opteron 6200 chips, along with 6100
processors, in PowerEdge servers.
Pre-order prices of AMD Opteron 3200, 4200 and 6200 processors
Oct 07, 2011: Earlier this week we published two stories with model numbers and
partial specifications of Opteron 3200 and 4200 server processors.
Today our reader John Wuorenmaa alerted us that these processors,
as well as full Opteron 6200 line-up, are now available
for pre-order at Bottom Line Telecommunications. What's more,
Opteron 6200 line-up references two new processors, Opteron 6204 and
6262 HE.
AMD ships first "Bulldozer" Opteron CPUs
Sep 08, 2011: Yesterday AMD announced shipments of the first Opteron 6200
microprocessors, based on upcoming "Bulldozer" microarchitecture.
Production of these Opterons started in August, and they are expected
to launch in the 4th quarter 2011. AMD Opteron 6200 processors feature
up to 16 CPU cores, up to 16 MB of on-chip L3 cache, 4 memory
channels, and 4 HyperTransport links.
Several Opteron 6200 CPUs sighted
Jul 24, 2011: Later this quarter, AMD will introduce two different
product lines, based on soon to be released Bulldozer
microarchitecture. AMD FX series will include a few unlocked
microprocessors for consumer market. Opteron 6200 series, positioned
for server market, will consist of a number of models with 8, 12 and
16 CPU cores. While there were several leaks with details of AMD FX
parts, there was no information on Opteron 6200 models until now.
This week, we were able to locate processor numbers and basic specs
for several Opteron processors from 6200 series.
