Intel Celeron M 520 LF80537NE0251M (BX80537520)

This Celeron M 520 has many key features, such as frequency, FSB, size of level 1 and 2 caches, and support for SIMD instructions, similar to those of the Celeron M 420. The advantages of this CPU over the 420 is a newer micro-architecture, and support for 64-bit and supplemental SSE3 instructions. It's easy to see how more efficient is Core micro-architecture by comparing the 420 and 520 processors on the same motherboard, using fairly old applications on 32-bit operating system. In this case, the 64-bit and SSSE3 features can be ignored, and all performance difference can be attributed to the difference in micro-architecture. On average, the 520 is faster than the 420 by 15% - 25% in integer calculations, by 7% - 15% in floating point calculations, and up to 30% in calculations utilizing MMX / SSEx instructions.

Some Celeron M processors were released in two types of packages - micro-FCBGA and micro-FCPGA. Processors in micro-FCPGA package have pins on the bottom of the package, and they are always installed in a socket. When necessary, these microprocessors can be easily removed from the socket, and replaced by another CPU in similar micro-FCPGA package. Processors in micro-FCBGA package, like this Celeron M 530, have solder balls on the bottom of the package instead of pins. These CPUs are usually soldered directly on the motherboard or on a separate CPU board. Removing these processors from the board is very difficult, if not impossible, without special equipment. Since these CPUs don't need a special socket, which is about a few millimeters high, this allows laptop manufacturers to build thinner laptops.
Celeron M 530 was released in three different package types - micro-FCBGA, and two different variations of 478-pin micro-FCPGA package, one of which works only in socket M motherboards, and another works in newer socket P motherboard. Be careful when buying one of these processors. Either confirm with the seller that the CPU works in specific socket, or verify processor's S-Spec number. S-spec number is a 5-letter code in the form SLxxx, which is always printed on the CPU and on the box. SL9UY, SL9VA, and SLGFL are Celeron M 530 socket M processors, and SLA2G and SLA48 are socket P CPUs.
