The usage of the word "speed" in relation to frequency or clock rate

CPU World & readers..

Frequency is not a "speed" that you read in MHz any more than you speedometer or airspeed indicator in your car/airplane reads a frequency in MHz or GHz. Look up the formal definition of "speed" and see how much it says about frequency, clock rate, bandwidth or data rate in relation to computing. Probably not all that much..

How did the usage of the word become distorted to represent bandwidth or, more specifically data rate? Marketing departments and uneducated usage on the Internet which are NOT technical by nature, trying to appeal to the public at large on a technical issue. Their answer would probably be, 'we must keep it in "simple" terms that the public can understand.'

Another source of verification is simply asking a physics instructor from high school through the university level to detail what exactly is "speed" by definition and in mathematical terms.

Response: You're right - "Bus Speed" is not a correct term. We will replace it with other term, possibly "Effective bus frequency".
