Intel Core i3-2330M Mobile processor - FF8062700846606
Specifications
Intel Mobile Core i3-2330M is a dual-core microprocessor for
mid-class notebooks. The processor was spotted in specifications of
HP ProBook 4530s and ThinkPad Edge E520 laptops at the beginning of
May 2011, and it was launched in June 2011 along with BGA version
of the chip. The i3-2330M is built on Sandy Bridge microarchitecture, that
combines CPU cores,
graphics processing unit (GPU), memory controller, Direct Media
Interface, and PCI Express interface. The microprocessor has
two cores, operating at 2.2 GHz, and uses three-level cache
architecture, where each CPU core has dedicated 64 KB first level and
256 KB second level caches, and both cores share 3 MB third level
cache. The L3 cache is also shared with the graphics processing unit.
The GPU is HD-capable, and supports 3D acceleration and such video
processing features, as Quick Sync, Clear Video HD, and InTru 3D.
On-chip memory controller has two channels, and works with DDR3
memory. The CPU cores support Intel 64, SIMD streaming extensions up
to SSE4, and AVX instructions. Intel i3-2330M incorporates VT-x
virtualization and Hyper-Threading technologies. The latter feature is
especially useful for multi-threading applications, as the
Hyper-Threading may provide up to 20% performance boost when executing
more than 2 threads simultaneously. While the Core i3-2330M supports a
handful of instruction extensions and technologies, it doesn't support
all of them. For instance, the CPU does not have Turbo Boost and Vpro
technologies, and does not incorporate AES instructions.
Intel i3-2330M has several low-power states, useful for saving
battery power when one or both cores are idle. To conserve power in
operational mode, the microprocessor uses Enhanced SpeedStep
technology. This feature lowers processor frequency and core voltage,
thus reducing power consumption. Thermal Design Power of this model is
35 Watt.
The Core i3-2330M is manufactured in micro-PGA package,
and works in socket G2 motherboards. The CPU in this package can be easily
replaced or upgraded, or can be used to upgrade slower Celerons and
Pentiums in similar package. Main advantage of Core i3 CPUs over Mobile
Pentiums is higher clock frequency, that directly translates to higher
performance, and Hyper-Threading technology. Compared to Mobile
Celerons, this i3-2330M also has 50% larger size of L3 cache.

Intel introduces mobile CPUs: part II
Jun 21, 2011: Yesterday, Intel posted new pricelist with four new ultra-low voltage
consumer processors from Celeron, Core i3 and Core i5 families. We
used this update as a base for yesterday's story, where we reported
that more parts may surface in an official announcement, or in the
Intel ARK product database. Today, several processors were added to
the ARK database, including two new models that we hadn't covered
before. The products, added to the database, are embedded Celeron 847E
and B810E, consumer-class Celeron B800, Pentium B940 and B950, as well
as 4 CPUs, previously found in the pricelist - Celeron 847, Core
i5-2557M, Core i7-2637M and i7-2677M. Two new SKUs are Pentium 957 and
Core i5-2467M.
Intel mobile CPUs to launch in June 2011
Jun 16, 2011: In the past few months, we published several stories detailing soon
to be released Sandy Bridge mobile microprocessors. The stories
referred to budget Celeron and Pentium CPUs, mainstream Core-branded
processors for mid-class laptops, and ultra low voltage (ULV) 2nd
generation Core chips for thin and light notebooks. Using notebook
product availability dates, our sources, and information, previously
disclosed by Fudzilla, we came up with a list of processors that will
be launched this month. The list includes ULV Celeron 847, embedded
Celeron 847E and B810E, Pentium B940, embedded Core i3-2330E
and i3-2340UE, and ULV Core i5-2557M, i7-2637M and i7-2677M.
Intel Core i3-2330M sighted in Lenovo G770 notebook
Apr 25, 2011: In January of this year, at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas,
Lenovo announced several G-series notebooks with AMD and Intel
processors, including a few notebooks with the latest Sandy Bridge
CPUs. One of these laptops, that hasn't been launched yet, is
a G770 with 17.3" widescreen display, and up to Radeon HD 6650M graphics, 8 GB
of RAM, and 750 GB HDD. There are a few things that make this
notebook interesting for us. First, G770
datasheet (PDF file) references not-yet-released Core i3-2330M
mobile microprocessor.
