Sep 02, 2012: Shortly after the launch of 22nm Ivy Bridge microarchitecture in
April 2012, all Core i5 and i7 desktop products were transitioned to
the new technology. Until today, less expensive Pentium
and Core i3 processors stayed on older 32nm process. It all changed today,
when Intel released Pentium and Core i3 "Ivy Bridge" microprocessors, and
refreshed Celeron and Pentium lineups. Overall, the company launched
16 new mid-class and budget SKUs, including one previously unknown
model, Core i5-3335S.
Bits and pieces: unreleased Intel CPUs spotted
Aug 16, 2012: In the 4th quarter 2012, Intel's Extreme segment of desktop market
will be updated with Core i7-3970X. Details of this CPU were revealed
by DonanimHaber, and later confirmed by a roadmap, leaked by VR-Zone.
Existence of this SKU was also confirmed earlier this month by Intel,
when the Core i7-3970X was added to Intel's Material Declaration Data
Sheets (MDDS) database.
New Intel Core i3 and Pentium CPUs to launch in September
Jul 17, 2012: Intel Ivy Bridge (IVB) desktop microprocessors were launched in
April of this year, and so far only Core i5 and i7 families were
transitioned to the new architecture. According to the launch
schedule, that we posted back in March,
Ivy-Bridge based Core i3 CPUs should be available in the third
quarter. We now have more details on the schedule. Based on
information, that we have on hand, Core i3-32xx products will be
released in the second week of September (the week that starts on
September 2nd). Along with Core i3s, Intel will introduce Pentium
G2100T and G2120 SKUs, also based on the Ivy Bridge core.
Prices of upcoming Ivy Bridge desktop CPUs
May 21, 2012: First desktop Intel Core i7 and i5 processors with Ivy Bridge
(IVB) core were rolled out less than a month ago, and more of these parts will be coming in two weeks. Specifications of forthcoming
models were known for quite some time, but the prices were revealed
only last Friday. DigiTimes
reported that upcoming Core i5 microprocessors will be priced from
$184 to $205. DigiTimes also provided $177 - $138 price range for
IVB-based Core i3 chips, coming in the third quarter. We were able
to confirm this information, and we can also provide slightly more
details about prices of Ivy Bridge CPUs.
Revised Ivy Bridge launch schedule confirmed
Mar 27, 2012: Ivy Bridge launch was delayed twice. First time it slipped from the
first to the second quarter 2012, and then it was delayed by another
two weeks. Current launch date for desktop Ivy Bridge CPUs is set on
April 29, which was confirmed by two different sources,
Sweclockers
and Donanimhaber. That still left us in the dark in regards to mobile
processors, due to rumors that their launch was pushed back until June.
After seeing recent desktop and mobile roadmaps we can confirm that
both desktop and mobile IB chips will be released at the same time.
Details of Ivy Bridge Core i3 CPUs leaked
Feb 15, 2012: One of the most anticipated events of the year will be the launch of Ivy
Bridge micro-architecture and related products. The first Ivy Bridge
"third-generation" processors will be introduced in April,
and more products will follow in the second and third quarters.
Details of upcoming Core i5 and i7 CPUs were revealed last November, and
slides with specifications of more budget-oriented Core i3 chips
were
leaked this week by Zol.com.cn.
