i5-450M is a dual-core microprocessor from a family of mid-class Core i5 Mobile CPUs. The processor was launched on June 20 together with 5 other mobile models. As all other Core i5 CPUs, the i5-450M is based on 32nm Arrandale core, main features of which are dual-core architecture, level 3 cache shared between cores, separate interfaces for memory and peripheral devices, and integrated HD-capable graphics controller. Beside shared 3 MB L3 cache, each CPU core incorporates its own 64 KB level 1 (32 KB for data plus 32 KB for instructions), and 256 KB level 2 caches. The processor operates at 2.4 GHz, but, when more processing power is required, its frequency can be briefly boosted up to 2.66 GHz. Microprocessor cores have HyperThreading technology enabled, which allows each core to execute two threads at once, or 4 threads in total. Other features of this CPU are SIMD extensions from SSE to SSE4, and 64-bit instructions. The Core i5-450M does not support Vpro features, existing in more expensive line of i5-5xx microprocessors. The i5-450M has 35 Watt maximum power dissipation, and is packaged into socket 988-compatible micro-PGA package.
Main difference between the Intel Core i5-450M and the i3-370M is the presence of Turbo Boost feature on the 450M. This feature provides short-term boost to 450M's core frequency - up to 266 MHz, regardless of whether the CPU has one or two cores active. Compared to more powerful Core i5-520M model, the 450M lacks primarily business-oriented Vpro features, such as Virtualization for directed I/O and Trusted Execution Technology, and does not include Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) instructions. Also, Turbo Boost feature on the the Core i5-520M may push frequency up to 2.93 GHz for one active core, while the maximum frequency in Turbo Boost mode for the i5-450M is 2.66 GHz.

New Mobile CPUs introduced, part II
Jun 22, 2010: Mobile Core i7 microprocessors were not the only processors released
yesterday. Today Intel posted specifications for three other models, that
didn't make into the price list. These are Core i5-450M, Core i3-370M
and Pentium P6000 CPUs, all based on 32nm Arrandale core.
More notebooks with upcoming Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 processors
May 26, 2010: On May 21 we posted specifications of new mobile microprocessors,
as well as names of a few notebooks where these processors will be
shipped. As more and more information about new notebooks with
upcoming CPUs appears on the net, we decided to provide additional
information in this news story.
Specifications of upcoming Intel Mobile microprocessors
May 21, 2010: Using different sources, we compiled specifications of upcoming
Intel mobile CPUs. These processors are Core i3-370M, Core i5-450M,
Core i7-740QM, Core i7-840QM and Core Extreme Edition i7-940XM. We
also discovered two Pentium Mobile models - P6000 and P6100.
