Intel Core i5-2430M Mobile processor - FF8062700995505SpecificationsIntel Mobile Core i5-2430M is a dual-core microprocessor for mid-class notebooks. This model was spotted at the beginning of May 2011 along with i3-2350M processor in specifications of HP ProBook 4530s and ThinkPad Edge E520 laptops, and it is expected to launch in the third quarter 2011. Like all second generation Core CPUs, the i5-2430M is built on Sandy Bridge microarchitecture, and it integrates two cores with L3 cache, graphics processing unit (GPU), Direct Media Interface, memory controller, and PCI Express 2.0 interface. The Intel i5-2430M runs at 2.4 GHz base frequency, which can be boosted to 3 GHz if the chip operates within its power and thermal limits. The CPU has three cache levels, where each processor core has dedicated 64 KB level one and 256 KB level two caches, and two cores share 3 MB level three cache. The L3 cache is also shared with the graphics processing unit. On-chip GPU supports High-Definition video, 3D acceleration, 3D video, and incorporates such features as Quick Sync and Clear Video HD. Integrated memory controller has two channels, and works with DDR3 memory. Core i5-2430M supports such technologies as Virtualization, Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost. The Hyper-Threading feature provides up to 20% performance boost when the processor executes more than 2 threads simultaneously. The CPU accommodates Intel 64, SIMD streaming extensions up to SSE4, and AVX instructions. The chip does not have any of Vpro technologies, though. Intel i5-2430M has standard for mobile microprocessors 35 Watt
Thermal Design Power, and it uses a handful of techniques to reduce
power consumption in active and idle modes. These include low-power
states, and Enhanced SpeedStep technology. The Intel i5-2430M is
produced in micro-PGA package, compatible with socket G2. PGA package
makes it easy to replace this processor, or to use it as an upgrade
for slower Celerons, Pentiums and Core i3s. At this time, the i5-2430M
has better performance than any Core i3 or budget CPU due to higher
clock frequency, and the Turbo Boost feature on this i5 model makes
the performance advantage even greater. Hyper-threading is another
performance booster on this CPU compared to budget Celerons and
Pentiums. Finally, this microprocessor has larger L3 cache than any
Celeron chip. ToolsIntel Core i5-2430M specifications

NewsIntel introduces Pentium 957 and B960, and Core mobile CPUs
Oct 04, 2011: Prior to last refresh of Intel Core i7 Mobile family, which happened one month
ago, we published a story with an estimated launch date for Core
i3-2430M and Core i7-2670QM microprocessors. Based on information,
that the processors will be available before October 4, we assumed
that they will be released in September along with Core i7-2640M and
three new quad-core Core i7 models. As we already know, our assumption
was wrong. However, our information was right, and the chips were
introduced this week, i.e. before or on October 4.
New Core i5-2435M and Core i7-2675QM CPUs spotted on Intel website
Aug 31, 2011: In the past month, we reported on several quad-core and dual-core
mobile Intel microprocessors, planned to launch in September. We
recently found two new Sandy Bridge mobile processors, that could
be launched at the same time frame. Core i5-2435M and Core i7-2675QM
were spotted on many chipset pages on Intel website.
Intel mobile CPUs to launch in June 2011
Jun 16, 2011: In the past few months, we published several stories detailing soon
to be released Sandy Bridge mobile microprocessors. The stories
referred to budget Celeron and Pentium CPUs, mainstream Core-branded
processors for mid-class laptops, and ultra low voltage (ULV) 2nd
generation Core chips for thin and light notebooks. Using notebook
product availability dates, our sources, and information, previously
disclosed by Fudzilla, we came up with a list of processors that will
be launched this month. The list includes ULV Celeron 847, embedded
Celeron 847E and B810E, Pentium B940, embedded Core i3-2330E
and i3-2340UE, and ULV Core i5-2557M, i7-2637M and i7-2677M.
Intel Core i3-2350M and i5-2430M CPUs spotted
May 05, 2011: In the second half of April, we published two stories about
upcoming Pentium B940 and B950 mobile processors, as well as Core
i3-2330M. Details about these microprocessors were discovered in
specifications of new Fujitsu, HP and Lenovo notebooks, and, based on
May release date of one of those notebooks, we presumed that the
processors will be introduced in May. Recently we found two new
second-generation CPUs, Core i3-2350M and Core i5-2430M.

Please do not ask upgrade and troubleshooting questions, and do not start discussions. Acer Aspire TimeLineX AS3830TG-6431 now sporting this processor...2011-09-25 18:09:54 Posted by: Jon N. I purchased the now sold-out Acer Apire TimeLineX 13.3" with the discreet nVidia GeForce 540m last week from amazon.com, and the unit came with the new processor in place of the 2410m. It does indeed support virtualization extensions, and though Acer doesn't exactly grace users with too many changeable BIOS options, it doesn't disable virtualziation hardware by default. Further, I haven't had any of the throttling problems mentioned by older buyers of the same laptop with the Core i5 2410m. I'm very happy with the unadvertised upgrade! I bought Lenovo with the same CPU!2011-10-27 06:38:45 Posted by: danitanev I just bought Lenovo Z570 laptop with the same CPU - Intel Core i5-2430M, with video NVidia GT 540M, 8192MB of RAM 1333 MHz, 750GB HDD. It's great machine - PC Wizard 2010 benchmark shows around 42000 points global performance - but I'm not sure if it's using the NVidia, or only the integrated Intel HD 3000 for the benchmark and the Turbofrequency of 3.0GHz or just the standart - 2.4GHz! Easy upgrade2013-04-06 22:07:29 Posted by: job72 I recently bought a second-hand Compaq Presario CQ57-339WM. It came with the Celeron 64 X2 B800 and 2GB of RAM. I maxed the RAM out to 8GB a day ago, and today I upgraded the CPU to the Core i5-2430M. Gained a 117% performance increase over the original configuration.
