Intel discontinues Pentium and Core-branded desktop CPUs
Dec 08, 2011: In the wake of the launch of desktop Ivy Bridge microprocessors,
coming in the second quarter 2012, Intel prepares to discontinue large
number of desktop models due to low demand. In the past two days, the
company published several Product Change Notification (PCN) documents,
that notify customers of upcoming discontinuation of 19 socket 1366,
socket 1156, and socket 1155 chips. Full list of retired SKUs
includes.
CPU Support for recently launched CPUs
May 20, 2010: We conducted a quick research on how well motherboards manufacturers, ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, ECS, Gigabyte and MSI, provide CPU support for recently released microprocessors. For this research we used CPUs launched in April: Phenom II X6, Core i5-680 and Pentium E5500.
Core i5-680 shows up in US online stores
May 06, 2010: Intel Core i5-680 and Pentium E5500 microprocessors were introduced at the same day, on April 19. While the Pentium processor popped up in stores in a day or two, the Core i5-680 was not so fast to arrive. Only a few US online stores showed it online, and all of them had it either backordered or on special order.
Intel introduces Core i5-680 and Pentium E5500
Apr 19, 2010: Last weekend Intel's price list was updated with two new processors - Core i5-680 and Pentium E5500.
