Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition - AT80613003543AE / BX80613I7980X

Specifications

i7-980x is the first Core I7 Extreme processor built on enhanced Nehalem microarchitecture. Prior to official launch the microprocessor was previewed during Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on March 10th 2010, and then reviewed by many hardware review sites on March 11th. The i7-980X runs at the same frequency as Core i7-975, but has larger number of cores - 6 as opposed to 4 in i7-975, and has 50% larger size of level 3 cache. Like other members of Core i7 family, the 980X includes HyperThreading feature, which allows each CPU core to act as two logical processors. With 12 logical processors and 3.33 GHz core frequency, the i7-980X performs extremely well in media applications, such as audio and video encoding, and 3D rendering. In these types of applications you can expect 30% - 45% boost over the i7-975. Business and game applications do not use all available 980X's cores, therefore the CPU has much smaller performance advantage over the i7-975 - from 0% and up to 5% in some applications.

Intel discontinues Xeon, Celeron and Core i7 CPUs
Mar 08, 2011: In one of our February's stories we reported about Intel plans to discontinue Xeon MP processors from 7200, 7300 and 7400 series in March of this year. Today Intel published Product Discontinuance Notifications (PDN) for these microprocessors. In addition to Xeon models, Intel is going to retire several mobile Celerons and Core i7s, as well as Core i7-980X.

I just love this CPU (accept for the price tag, that is not to love), super fast (its a Beast) and have all what a CPU shut have. hign clock frekvens (god for single threade programs) and 6 cores/12 threats for multi threadet programs. i like that. God mount off L3 cache (12 MB) and is just super fast in more or les every thing. And its overclock´s very well to. 4 GHz is no problem and even more is deffenly possible whit the right cooling. Whit good water cooling +4.5 GHz whit all 6 cores/12 threats active is possible. CPU does alså have unlocked multiplier. Only the price tag takes the score down. A great CPU there is super fast (great) and super exspensive also (Doh, as homer simpson would have said it).
