Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition I7-990X

News

Feb 03, 2012: I'm sure most readers have come across fake electronic hardware, either personally or through reading/watching news articles. CPUs are no exception, and in the forums here at CPU-World there have been many threads discussing fakes. Some of them are very well made, and sometimes produced in very large quantities. Others are relatively easy to spot. One that is easy to spot is an Intel Core i7-990X discussed on the Intel forums.

Dec 08, 2011: In the wake of the launch of desktop Ivy Bridge microprocessors, coming in the second quarter 2012, Intel prepares to discontinue large number of desktop models due to low demand. In the past two days, the company published several Product Change Notification (PCN) documents, that notify customers of upcoming discontinuation of 19 socket 1366, socket 1156, and socket 1155 chips. Full list of retired SKUs includes.

Feb 14, 2011: One week ago we published a story regarding refresh of quad-core and six-core Xeon microprocessors from 5600 series, coming on February 14. As expected, today Intel updated Xeon 5600 family with 9 new microprocessors, and introduced non-embedded version of Xeon E5645. Also today, Intel launched Core i7-990X, new flagship CPU with unlocked clock multiplier for computer enthusiasts, and Xeon W3690 for single-socket workstations.

Feb 11, 2011: With the impending release of new Sandy Bridge microprocessors later this month, we decided to take a look at the upcoming models. Based on information, published by Intel, in February Intel will launch three models from Core i3 family. According to reports from other hardware news sites, Intel may also introduce Core i7 Extreme Edition i7-990X.

Jan 10, 2011: Earlier last year many hardware news site reported on forthcoming Core i7 Extreme Edition CPU with processor number i7-990X. The processor was rumored to be released in the first quarter of this year. There was no official announcement of this CPU yet, and it was not included in yesterday's update of Intel's price list. It seems that the Core i7-990X was not launched yet. Or was it? In the past few days this Intel Extreme Edition processor popped up on Hewlett Packard website in the list of CPU upgrade options for two desktop computers, Pavilion Elite 580t and 590t series

Sep 16, 2010: First information about forthcoming Core i7 Extreme model with processor number i7-990X appeared in June of this year. More details about the CPU were reported by Fudzilla in the second half of August. Today Intel published boxed part number and S-Spec number for the Core i7-990X, confirming impending release of this model.
