Oct 04, 2011: Prior to last refresh of Intel Core i7 Mobile family, which happened one month ago, we published a story with an estimated launch date for Core i3-2430M and Core i7-2670QM microprocessors. Based on information, that the processors will be available before October 4, we assumed that they will be released in September along with Core i7-2640M and three new quad-core Core i7 models. As we already know, our assumption was wrong. However, our information was right, and the chips were introduced this week, i.e. before or on October 4.

Intel Core i7-2670QM coming this fall
Aug 19, 2011: Last month we published details on 4 new Core i7 mobile microprocessors, coming in September. One of these models, Core i7-2640M, will have two CPU cores, whereas three remaining Core i7s will have 4 cores. According to specifications of notebooks, spotted on ASUS, Dell and Fujitsu websites, there will be another quad-core mobile processor, Core i7-2670QM.

Good and steady performance

I have an Asus G74 that comes with this processor and I like its efficiency and performance. Rarely bumps up the Turbo to 3.10GHz on single threaded applications, but most of the time runs pegged at 2.80GHz on multithreaded applications and still having performance left to do many other tasks. Its power stages are so configurable that I configured the power option on Windows to allow the CPU to not exceed 1.50GHz on battery and it can last up to 3 hours on light loads which is not bad for a computer with a 17 inches screen and a quad core processor. One of the best mobile processors on the market.
