News
Intel discontinues second-generation Core i5 and i7 CPUs
Sep 26, 2012: Yesterday Intel published several Product Change Notification (PCN)
documents, advising their customers about upcoming discontinuation of
Core i5 and i7 processors, and one Celeron SKU. Most of retired
microprocessors are based on older Sandy Bridge microarchitecture, and
they were introduced in the January - October 2011 time frame.
Bits and pieces: AMD FX-4100 pre-order price, boxed 960T is available
Oct 09, 2011: AMD FX-Series of microprocessors, based on not yet released
Bulldozer core, will be launched in a few days. One of upcoming
models, AMD FX-4100, emerged in several US online stores at the end of
September. Tray version of this CPU was listed for $180 - $190, and at
the time we estimated that its official price
could be close to AMD FX-6100 model. Since then, the price was
lowered, and the CPU is now listed for $120.68
on Provantage.com, and for $130.20 on Bottom Line
Telecommunications website.
Intel cuts prices of energy-efficient desktop CPUs
Sep 05, 2011: Last month we reported that in September Intel is going to cut
prices of energy-efficient desktop microprocessors from
second-generation Core i5 and i7 families. Expected price reductions
were minor, $12 at most. Yesterday Intel launched 16 new desktop and
mobile CPUs, and revised the prices of all mid- and low-power "S" and
"T" processors.
Intel to cut prices of Sandy Bridge desktop CPUs in Q3 2011
Aug 16, 2011: This fall, Intel plans to refresh desktop mid-class and budget
families with seven new models. The new processors are Core
i5-2320, Core i3-2130, i3-2125 and i3-2120T, and Pentium G860, G630
and G630T. Details of these CPUs, as well as prices for some of them,
were known for months. In a related move, Intel is going to drop prices
on selected Sandy Bridge SKUs.
Intel launches new desktop and mobile CPUs
Jan 09, 2011: Earlier this week, at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Intel
announced 2nd generation Core microprocessors, based on just
introduced Sandy Bridge micro-architecture. Today, Intel officially
launched these processors, as well as a few models built on older
Nehalem and Core technology. Intel's price list was updated
with prices and brief specifications of all new CPUs.
Intel launches Sandy Bridge micro-architecture
Jan 06, 2011: On Monday, Intel announced new "2nd generation Core" desktop and
mobile microprocessors, based on Sandy Bridge micro-architecture. The
same day many hardware news sites published reviews of Sandy Bridge
processors, and the universal conclusion was "yes, it's faster and
better". Today Intel updated ARK database with details on all new
models.
Prices and launch dates of desktop Sandy Bridge CPUs
Dec 02, 2010: While specifications of many Sandy Bridge desktop microprocessors
were known for quite some time, since July of this year, prices and
release dates of these models were unknown until last week. At the end
of November Expreview
revealed prices and launch dates of all Sandy Bridge-based
desktop models. Expreview also published specifications of Pentium CPUs,
that will be introduced in February and in the second quarter 2011.
Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs surface in Biostar CPU support list
Nov 16, 2010: Biostar published CPU support list for socket 1155 motherboards, which
includes a number of upcoming Core i5 and Core i7 Sandy
Bridge microprocessors. Processor frequency and Thermal Design Power
characteristics in the published data match those from the earlier
reports, that appeared months ago. The list references Core i5-2300 processor, that we first reported on three days ago.
