Intel discontinues Bay Trail and mobile Core i7 CPUs
Feb 06, 2014
: Last September Intel released budget Bay Trail systems on a chip
for mobile and desktop markets, branded as Celeron and Pentium. The
processors were manufactured on 22nm technology, and featured
such enhancements as greater number of CPU cores, higher clock speeds,
beefed up graphics unit, not to mention an out-of-order
microarchitecture, that improved per-clock CPU performance by up to
30% compared to their predecessors. The first wave of Bay Trail SKUs
was followed in November by Burst-enabled models, that offered even
higher operating frequencies.
New mobile Pentium and Core CPUs are now available

: At the beginning of September Intel added three Core i7 and two
mobile Celerons to official price list, and later published
specifications of a Pentium B980 in their ARK product database. All six
CPUs were part of a bigger refresh of performance and budget mobile
market segments, that was scheduled for the end of Q3 and/or beginning
of Q4 2012. This week Intel introduced six more mobile SKUs,

: Intel plans to refresh mobile performance lineup with three new
"Ivy Bridge" chips later this year. Core i7-3740QM, i7-3840QM and
i7-3940XM are going to replace i7-3720QM, i7-3820QM and i7-3920XM,
that were launched back in April. New SKUs were first spotted on Intel
website, but so far we didn't have reliable information about their
launch date and clock speeds. We recently learned that the CPUs will
be available in the Q4 2012. We also found processors' details in a
manual (PDF file) of EUROCOM P370EM Scorpius notebook.

May 27, 2012
: The first wave of Ivy Bridge mobile processors, introduced last
month, included only quad-core chips from Core i7 family. Out of 6
consumer i7 models, three were released as retail and OEM products,
whereas the rest were OEM-only. It appears that Intel plans two
additional retail SKUs, Core i7-3740QM and i7-3840QM. Box part numbers and S-Spec numbers
of these chips surfaced in Material Declaration Data Sheets (MDDS) database in the last two days.
