Nov 09, 2012: Tthis week Intel launched Itanium "Poulson" microprocessors for mission-critical applications. Built on 32nm technology, new CPUs boast twice as many cores, twice instruction throughput, and support for DDR3-1066 memory, resulting in up to 2.4 better CPU performance and up to 33% faster I/O than previous generation of Itanium 9300 series "Tukwilla" products. On top of that, the "Poulson" Itaniums add new processor instructions, and new Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) features.

Intel publishes Itanium 9500 reference manual
Jul 11, 2012: In June we reported on several unreleased 9500-series CPUs, spotted in one of Intel's Product Change Notifications (PCN). Later it was confirmed that the processors are upcoming Itanium products, based on not yet released "Poulson" core. The Itaniums were supposed to launch last month, but, as we recently learned, they were delayed until the third quarter. The processors are not announced yet, however some details about them already surfaced on Intel website.

Spotted 9500-series CPUs confirmed to be "Poulson" Itaniums
Jun 26, 2012: Two weeks ago 4 unreleased chips were spotted in Intel's Product Change Notification. The CPUs with 9520, 9540, 9550 and 9560 processor numbers had S-spec and part numbers that we couldn't identify at the time. Based on 9xxx processor numbers, we suspected that they were forthcoming Itanium chips, codenamed "Poulson". Recent update of Intel's Material Declaration Data Sheets (MDDS) database confirmed our suspicion. During update, large number of Poulson S-Spec and QDF numbers were added to the MDDS database, and only four of them are production models.

Unreleased Intel Itanium 9500-series CPUs spotted
Jun 13, 2012: Last December we reported that the next generation of Intel Itanium processors, codenamed "Poulson", will be available this quarter. We don't have any new information on the launch schedule, however we spotted a few unknown Itanium CPUs, possibly Poulson parts, in Intel's Product Change Notification (PCN). The document, that was published yesterday, notifies customers about CPU tray design modification, and provides a list of affected processors, including Xeon E7, Itanium 9300 series, and previously unheard of Itanium 9500 series.

Itanium Poulson is on track for Q2 2012
Dec 15, 2011: As you may know, next year Intel is going to release next generation of Itanium microprocessors, codenamed "Poulson". Details of these processors were disclosed earlier this year on Hot Chips conference. The Poulson processors will have 3.1 billion transistors, and will be manufactured on 32nm process. They will integrate 54 MB of memory, and pack 8 cores, that is twice as many cores as current "Tukwilla"-based Itanium 9300 CPUs. Forthcoming processors will be compatible with Itanium 9300, and they will be coupled with 7500 chipset.
