AMD A8-Series A8-3500M - AM3500DDX43GXSpecificationsAMD A8-3500M is one of the first mobile CPUs from "A8-Series for Notebooks" family. This processor, built on newly announced Llano core, was introduced in June 2011 as a part of Sabine mobile platform along with two other members of A8-Series family. The CPU, marketed by AMD as Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), is aimed at mid-class / high-performance mainstream laptops with discreet-class graphics capabilities. AMD Llano core is a fusion of improved "Stars" or K10 CPU cores, and high-performance integrated Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). The A8-3500M is produced using 32nm manufacturing process, and it features four CPU cores, each having 128 KB level 1 and 1 MB level 2 dedicated caches. The APU operates at 1.5 GHz clock frequency, which can be boosted as high as 2.4 GHz when not all CPU cores are active. The A8-3500M supports common instruction set extensions up to SSE3 / SSE4A, and standard K10 technologies, such as AMD64 and Virtualization. Unlike previous generation of mobile AMD microprocessors from "Danube" platform, that had graphics controller integrated in the chipset, the A8-Series APUs integrate graphics directly on a chip. The A8-3500M model has Radeon HD 6620G GPU, which runs at 444 MHz, and has 400 shader units. When the units are used for 3D graphics acceleration, the GPU can perform on the same level as discreet video cards. The units can be also used for non-graphics computations. In this case the combined performance of 400 shaders can be up to 30 times higher than performance of 4 CPU cores. Besides the 4 CPU cores and the graphics unit, the A8-Series A8-3500M integrates Universal Video Decoder (UVD) 3.0 and memory controller. The purpose of the UVD is to accelerate decoding of standard-resolution and high-definition video streams. On-chip DDR3 memory controller has two channels, supporting standard- and low-voltage DDR3 memory with data rates up to 1333 MHz. To reduce processor's power consumption, the AMD A8-3500M employs
several low-power states, and uses a number of low-level techniques,
like power gating. Thermal Design Power of this CPU is 35 Watt, which
can be considered low, because it also includes the power dissipated
by the GPU, memory controller and other chip components. The 3500M is
manufactured in a PGA package, compatible with socket FS1. ToolsAMD A8-3500M specifications

Sep 07, 2011: Current generation of mobile AMD Accelerated Processing units
(APUs) was launched in June of this year. The initial line-up was
comprised of 8 dual- and quad-core microprocessors from E2- and
A-Series, including 4 models with averaged maximum power 35 Watt. No
additional models were released or announced (or sighted) since then.
In August, Hewlett Packard updated "Maintenance and Service Guide"
for HP Pavilion g7 line of notebooks, and added three
new A-Series model numbers, A4-3320M, A6-3420M and A8-3520M.
AMD launches A-Series APUs for Notebooks
Jun 15, 2011: AMD yesterday announced new 2011 AMD Notebook Platform, that
includes seven dual-core and quad-core A-Series microprocessors,
codenamed "Llano". The new processors are marketed by AMD as
Accelerated Processing Units (APU), and, in addition of retaining the
full functionality of CPUs from previous generation of mobile AMD
"Danube" platform, add extensive video and graphics processing
capabilities.
Details of mobile Llano A-Series CPUs surface on AMD website
Jun 12, 2011: In May, we published specifications of forthcoming mobile A-Series
microprocessors with integrated graphics, marketed by AMD as
Accelerated Processing Units (APU). At the launch, there will be 7
dual- and quad-core SKUs, clocked from 1.5 GHz to 2.1 GHz, and
reaching as high as 2.6 GHz in Turbo Core mode. Two days ago "2011 AMD
Notebook Platform" page, was updated with information of these models.
Details of AMD Llano mobile CPU lineup
May 25, 2011: Earlier this week DonanimHaber
published details of forthcoming AMD mobile "Llano"
microprocessors from "Sabine" platform. Based on their information,
the mobile line-up will be comprised of four families, targeting
different sectors of the mobile market: high-performance
A8-Series, mid- to high-performance A6-Series, budget and mid-class
A4-Series, and entry-level E2-Series.
