News

May 24, 2010: Core i3-550 microprocessor was planned for the second quarter of this year. Although this model is not officially released yet, it is already available in many stores. We tested one of the processors, and compared results to other Intel Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs, as well as a few selected Athlon II and Phenom II dual-, triple- and quad-core microprocessors.

May 03, 2010: A few weeks ago we acquired a lot of Athlon II processors with C3 core revision. Although we posted pictures and individual benchmarks to Athlon II CPU pages, and added the results to our benchmark database more than a week ago, we decided to provide benchmarks in more readable format, i.e. as a review.

Unlocking the 4th core

CADAC AD 1005GPMW (boxed). It was easy to unlock the 4th core with Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2H. Turned into Deneb core PHENOM II x4 B40 Processor. Did not unlock L3-Cache. With Cool&Quiet off the unlocked processor was stable at 1.275V. Default voltage is at 1.375V. The stock Fan/Heatsink has no copper core and does not go above 3000 rpm. Running tests at 100% load did heat it up a bit in less than 5 minutes, so it definitely needs an aftermarket cooler if you want to try overclocking.

On a M4A785D-M PRO unlocked L3 but not the 4th core (booted but windows didn't loaded).
Stable, no overclock or undervolt tested yet.

AMD Athlon II X3 440, Used core unlocker, automatically unlocked L3 cache and started with 3 cores, tried to post twice first but reset as it tried 4 cores with and without cache, seems cre 4 was faulty. Core Unlocker is a great feature on the newer 8** series boards.
