Sempron 140 is the first single-core microprocessor and the first Sempron-branded processor based on the K10 microarchitecture. With 2.7 GHz clock frequency and large 1 MB level 2 cache, this processor leaves far behind all other K8-based Sempron CPUs. The Sempron 140 is even faster than almost all single-core Athlon microprocessors. The only Athlon 64 CPU that matches this Sempron, and only in a some benchmarks, is Athlon 64 LE-1660.

While the Sempron has only one core, it's in fact a dual-core Athlon II processor with one core disabled. The second core may be unlocked on some Sempron 140 microprocessors using "Advanced Clock Calibration" BIOS feature. Sempron with unlocked core is reported by CPU-Z and similar programs as "Athlon II X2 4400e Processor". Not only that, but some Sempron processors overclock really well, and may reach 3.6 - 3.7 GHz. I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H.
With Normal ACC firmware setting per core "-2".

Unlocked succesfully.

But I cannot enable C1E, Once enable it will not boot up.

The Sempron 140 can also be unlocked to restore it an Athlon II X2 state. Both chips are based on the same silicon, but the Sempron has one of its cores disabled..
I have GIGABYTE MB 'GA-MA78LM-S2H' and able to unlock 2nd core..Use 'EC FIRWARE' to Hybrid and 'ACC' to Auto..

The CPU Specs say "DDR2 Controller" but it should be DDR2/DDR3 since this in an AMD K10 and can be used in the AM3-socket

I read your comment regarding the settings on your Gigabyte Motherboard and can confirm that they work. I recently rebuilt a couple of my kids machines, so, on a budget, I acquired a pair of MA78LM-S2H's to see if I could unlock any on my Semprons and indeed I can. All of them did. Thanks kindly.

I have successfully unlocked my Sempron 140 NAEIC AE 1040MPMW using Biostar A780L3G motherboard. So far it is running stable at 3.37 GHz on stock cooler and using cheapo 2x2 GB DDR3-1333 (bought it for US$15 a piece LOL).

The first one I tried would overclock with stability to 3.7ghz..On trying to unlock the 2nd core it would not boot fully into Win7 even boosting Vcore to 1.5v
The 2nd one would not unlock..and would not overclock past 3.1ghz
