Here is a clearly blown one I got from EBAY. Seller said "Thermal indicator doesn't show overheated, no bent/broken pins, burns, etc." He never even cleaned off the old grease. Do these even have a thermal indicator?

Caveat emptor.

Go and fidd the seller and give him/her a lesson..
Core is gone, probably for hard-handling when installing the cooler.

i love these old xps

as long as you have a decent motherboard, these things are unstopable as far as overclocking
all these early XPs had their multi unlocked(UP and down) so you could overclock using the multi to lessin the chance of instability in the whole system... i had a 1700+ that overclocked crazy good and i still have a 1800+ (i think this model) that i hafe at 2ghz right now. these things are GREAT. if your looking to build a nice lil budget machine for fun, you gotta get some othese.

Stepping matters!

In response to Michael, the stepping matters greatly. JIUHB is the best, and known for crazy overclocks in the area of 2.5GHz. To be guaranteed the chip is unlocked, it must have a date code of 0334 or earlier. I just bought two of these off of eBay for $5.50 each. They look like new and work. After testing their OC ability, I will offer them back up for sale.
