Athlon XP 3000+ was introduced simultaneously with new Athlon XP Barton core. Main new feature of this core is 512 KB level 2 cache, which is twice as large as L2 cache on all previously released XP microprocessors. Bigger L2 cache improved CPU performance by up to 10% - this allowed AMD increase processor rating to 3000 MHz while keeping internal CPU frequency lower than on Athlon XP 2800+ AXDA2800DKV3D.

My KT4V-L mobo's BIOS mis-identifies this as an XP 1700+, but it's clearly a Barton.

ON THE MSI KT4D YOU WILL ONLY GET A READING AS A 2700,EVEN WITH BIOS FLASHED.MSI SAID THAT THESE PROCESSORS AND THE VOLTAGE HAS TO BE SET AT B.1.8.NOW YOUR BOARD MAY NOT HANDLE THAT.YOU WILL GET THE SAME CLOCK SPEED,BUT THE CACHE IS DIFERENT IN SIZE.PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN YOU ARE BUYING THESE TYPE OF PROCESSORS FOR THE SOCKET A MOTHERBOARD

A friend of mine has given me a pc that is 'not working'. After checking which processor is installed Athlon xp 3000, I found stepping code of AQXFA.

Response: Your processor looks genuine to me. ADYHA stepping code is much less common than AQYHA, that's the first time I see it on Athlon

I was told by a computer tech that the Athlon Xp 3000+ with the brown circuit board is an OEM with a Bus Speed of 266 MHz. Whereas the green circuit board is 333 MHz. (Can anyone confirm this?) Cheers.

Response: The performance gain would be very small - less than 10% on average. You probably won't even notice it.

i went from a 1500+ to a 3000+
major speed increase

this is going to be a future NAS/Mediacenter/home entertainment system
it has 2GB of ram 500GB on HDD space
and its going to get a ATI HD3850 or a HD4670 AGP
depening on the ammount of cash and psu power it hase

i got a 40 inch lcd screen down stairs witch i want to watch every thing i download on

one of my favrit cpu.s an as far as i know i still hole the rec for oc.ing it at 2876mh in windows with a voltage of 2.2v an a core temp of -17

i ran it at 2.6gh for years on 2.1v an it still works allthow i dont use it any more

Brown v\s Green PCB

I read an older article that the Brown PCB was the Mobile version for laptops with multiplier unlocked to fit various Mobile platforms. The Green PCB has a Locked or Fixed multiplier for Desktops because most have manual settings. Don't know for sure.... maybe they just had different suppliers or just ran out of Green:) Long Green:)
