Dirt cheap and a great overclocker - runs at 166 FSB (2249 MHz)on stock voltage and cheap OEM air cooling. Have run at 400 FSB on an N Force 2 chipset mobo (ABIT NF7)with good all copper cooler and 5K RPM 80 mm fan. At these speeds it out benches the Athlon XP 3200! Most DX 8 and 9 Games also run well despite the lack of L2 cache. Suposedly L2 can be restored to 128 with a bridge short (L6 I think) but after trying this on 3 diff CPUs i gave up. Was able to convert to Mobile Duron with a diff bridge short and the adjust multiplier on the fly with crystal CPU (I think max multi on a 133 board was 16.5 or about 2.2 GHz total clock speed)

Well,on 1600 + it's working..
U have to connect the last pins from L2 bridges
Use pensil(2b,4b)...

Hi all. I have Duron 1.6 GHz. I want to "unlock" the L2 cache from 64 to 256 or more if is possible and open multiplikator but how? Please put the pictures.

Does that mod work on my Asrock K7S41GX ??? I tried it but it doesn't worked ???

Yeah,right :D !! No way,man!!
No more than 256kb L2 cache are possible!!
I tried that mod on my 1800+ but it doesn't worked :(
the pencil trick is not a good way with that Duron . I don't know what to try,any ideas ?

p.s. I've heard something about "Superlocked" Durons ?!?
WTF ???
Can anyone give some info about that ???

Green Packaging - L2 Bridges

I have Green I guess newer packaging of this Duron and L2 bridges are little different. Seems like L9 and L2 bridges share a contact??? Can these still be modified to yield 512KB cash?

Well the L2 cache should be under the L9(i think)
So try it and post your results(i think to enable the L2 too )
So good luck ;) !!!

Help me with my overclocking please!!!

Hello all

Look, I want to overclock my L2 cache from 64Kb to 256Kb, but I can't understand where precisely is the L2 cache!! So I'm gonna attach a pic and please if someone could tell me where it is, I would be very very thankful !

Help me with my overclocking please!!!

AMD DURON

I can tell you, my friends, that i have the same Duron.
It was easy to overclock :).Max. cpu speed is 3.00 Ghz
It's a lot over 2.2 Ghz, right ? Yes the temperature is
60 Cels,but from 1.8 it became 3 Ghz !!! Wow!
Don't worry for that the cpu "life" will be decreased.Yes it's trye- from 10 years to (in the worst case)5 years,of corse if everything is done well :)
So dont lose time and Upgrade your AMD and enjoy your great creation :).Good luck!

Response: I can't find this motherboard name. Please post upgrade questions in the forum, not in the page comments.

CPU change

Ive got a Elite Group ECS Mainboard, type K7S5A Pro, now housing a AMD Duron 1300. I want to upgrade and need to know if my main board will support this processor.
Here are its specs.
FF: ATX
Chipset: Sis735
VGA/Audio: no/yes
modem/lan: no/yes
DIMM/DDR: 2/2
ISA/PCI/AGP/AMRI: 0/5/1/1

So my question is will my mainboard support the AMD Duron 1800?

Response: Please see responses in the forum: http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=32645

Doesnt show up as right speed on my computer

I added this processor to a KT600-A MB and i changed the bus to 133 but it shows up on my system as mobile amd athl 797mhz. What am i doing wrong???

Response: Make sure BIOS is up to date. Try to manually set clock multiplier to 13.5. Post this question in the forum to followup on this.

So if i connect all L1 bridges i will unlock the multiplier? But now i don't have that option in the bios to change the multiplier, if i unlock it will the option show???

L2 !

If you close the L1 bridges :::::. (5 double & 1 single pin)

you have an open multiplikator !

I prefer 165x13 (with good cooling of the Board/CPU socket too).

The L2 bridge (for the cache) is below the L1.
As i said 128kb is enough.

L2 !

I want to know if this processor will work on a Chaintech CT-7AIA5 motherboard with BIOS version 8.0

Would this processor work?

Response: It should as it supports T-bred/266MHz. Please confirm with Chaintech - www.chaintech.com.tw/tw/eng/Support/HowToGetSupport.asp

Would this be compatible with my computer?

if i have a 750 AMD Duron Proccesor, and it is Socket A, Would this Proccesor work? If it does were could i buy it in canada?

Would this be compatible with my computer?

Response: There is a big chance it won't work, but it all depends on your motherboard. Please post the question in the forum.

What happens to the memory when you run a 133 Memory upto 162-164?

I can understand overclocking. And, the "trick" with the L2 cache's seems like a GREAT find.
But, to run your 1800 MHz processor, that has a FSB / DRAM of 133Mhz at the rate of 160+ Mhz, will , more than likely, cause you to buy A LOT more 133Mhz (or, 266Mhz DDR) Memory Modules than you would running it at normal FSB / DRAM speed.

For me the worlds most underestimated cpu in the world.

The Duron 1600/1800 CPU has already 256kb Cache on the chip but not activated (applebred core = simple thoroughbred)
Sometimes the bigger segments are not functionally.
But it is worth to try:

Locate the L2 bridges, they are normally opened

12345
ooooo
_oooo
ABCDE

o = Pin
x = space

Conductive silver paint ...
Close 2B 3C 4D = 64kb 2nd level cache
Close 2B 3C 5E = 128kb
Close all (2B 3C 4D 5E) = 256 kb

Try step by step and test the cpu for calculation/memory errors !
Don't forget that the more cache is running the higher goes the cpu temperature.
Often 128 kb is enough and you can go higher with the frequency.

Normally a duron 1800 runs easyly with 162/163 MHz front side bus x 13,5 multiplier = ca. 2200 MHz.
Simple air cooling -> 45°Cels.

Most people forget to cool the backside of the cpu socket/mainboard and the chipset.

At this speed you compete with an Athlon XP 3200+ :o)
