CPU Information
First Athlon 64 FX processors, like this one, were packaged in 940-pin ceramic micro-Pin Grid Array package, and required socket 940 motherboards. Not only these motherboards were more expensive than socket 754 motherboards needed for early desktop Athlon 64 processors, the FX processors also required more expensive registered (buffered) memory. Combined with high prices of Athlon 64 FX processors, this resulted in high prices of socket 940 Athlon 64 FX systems.
