Like the Pentium Pro CPU, Intel Pentium II Xeon processor was a high-performance processor used in workstations and servers. Based on the Deschutes core, the Xeon processor was similar to Pentium II with the exception of the L2 cache and packaging. The Pentium II Xeon had up to 2 MB of L2 cache that was running at the processor speed. The Xeon processor was packaged in a SEC cartridge - although the package name was the same as for the Pentium II processors, the Xeon cartridge was much bigger and used different type of connector.

Intel Pentium II Xeon processor was produced in two speed grades - 400 and 450 MHz.
