Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile U5400 CN80617006042AC
Specifications
Pentium Mobile U5400 is the first dual-core mobile Pentium CPU built on 32 nm process. As the "U" prefix in the processor number suggests, this mobile processor is an ultra-low voltage (ULV) part, that features smaller height owing to micro-BGA package, and significantly better power dissipation. As usual for ULV microprocessors, to achieve this kind of power savings, the U5400 uses lower core voltage and runs at much lower frequency, just 1.2 GHz, than standard-power microprocessors. Other features of this CPU are consistent with standard-power 32nm models with Arrandale core: dual-core design, separate interfaces for memory and peripheral devices, integrated graphics controller, per-core 256 KB level 2 cache, and large shared 3MB level 3 cache. The mobile Pentium U5400 incorporates only basic features of the Arrandale core, such as SIMD instructions from SSE to SSE4, 64-bit instruction set, and Execute disable bit, which prevents execution of certain types of viruses.
Like other Arrandale-based ULV parts, this Pentium processor has 18 Watt Thermal Design Power (TDP). This TDP value includes power dissipated by integrated graphics controller, and the TDP for the CPU cores alone is less than 11 Watt. As already been mentioned, the CPU is manufactured in a micro-BGA package, and cannot be easily replaced on a motherboard.
Pentium Mobile U5400 is somewhat faster than mobile Celeron U3400 CPU due to faster core frequency and larger size of L3 cache. Also, this mobile Pentium supports SSE4 instructions, therefore it could be even more faster than the Celeron in applications that utilize these instructions. When compared to more expensive Core i3-330UM model, the Pentium lacks HyperThreading technology, and cannot compete with the Core i3 CPU when running more than two-threads at once. The Core i3 microprocessor also supports Virtualization technology, which is missing from the mobile Pentium.
