Intel Pentium G2120 - CM8063701095801 / BX80637G2120 / BXC80637G2120
Specifications
Pentium G2120 is dual-core budget microprocessor for budget PCs.
Launched in September 2012 with an official price of $75, the G2120
was one of the first Pentiums, built on Ivy Bridge microarchitecture.
Despite of its low price, the processor utilizes the latest (as of
April 2013) 22nm microarchitecture, and has all necessary features to
run the latest operating systems. When launched, the G2120 replaced
Pentium G870. Both chips run at 3.1 GHz, but the G2120 uses more
efficient architecture, has lower TDP, beefed up graphics unit, and
supports memory with higher data rate.
All modern Pentium chips have the same set of features, and the
G2120 is not an exception. The CPU has 2 cores, each with its own L1
and L2 caches. Both cores share 3MB level 3 cache. They
operate at 2.9 GHz, and support basic technologies,
including Intel 64, Virtualization and Execute disable bit. Intel 64,
or EM64T, is a prerequisite for running 64-bit operating systems.
Execute disable bit, when supported by OS, can protect from some
viruses. Virtualization feature improves performance of virtualized
OSes and programs. The G2120 lacks all advanced features, such as
Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost. Having 2 cores and lacking advanced
technologies, the G2120 can't compete with Core i3, i5 and i7
siblings. It is still a very good processor if all you need is to
check e-mail, browse the web, write documents and do other simple
office work.
To interface with memory, the chip uses dual-channel memory controller,
that works with DDR3-1600 RAM sticks. The Pentium also integrates HD graphics unit,
clocked at 650 MHz.
The GPU frequency can be increased to 1050 MHz when higher graphics
performance is needed. That is sufficient for any type of 2D graphics,
and for casual 3D games. However, the GPU lacks execution units, used
to accelerate 3D graphics and games, and to perform general purpose
calculations. Additionally, the GPU doesn't support high-end video features,
like Quick Sync Video, Clear Video HD technology or InTru 3D.
Thermal Design Power of the Intel G2120 is 55 Watt, that is
identical to other G2000 series chips. This Pentium is compatible with
socket 1155 motherboards.

News
Intel launches mid-class and budget desktop CPUs
Sep 02, 2012: Shortly after the launch of 22nm Ivy Bridge microarchitecture in
April 2012, all Core i5 and i7 desktop products were transitioned to
the new technology. Until today, less expensive Pentium
and Core i3 processors stayed on older 32nm process. It all changed today,
when Intel released Pentium and Core i3 "Ivy Bridge" microprocessors, and
refreshed Celeron and Pentium lineups. Overall, the company launched
16 new mid-class and budget SKUs, including one previously unknown
model, Core i5-3335S.
Bits and pieces: unreleased Intel CPUs spotted
Aug 16, 2012: In the 4th quarter 2012, Intel's Extreme segment of desktop market
will be updated with Core i7-3970X. Details of this CPU were revealed
by DonanimHaber, and later confirmed by a roadmap, leaked by VR-Zone.
Existence of this SKU was also confirmed earlier this month by Intel,
when the Core i7-3970X was added to Intel's Material Declaration Data
Sheets (MDDS) database.
New Intel Core i3 and Pentium CPUs to launch in September
Jul 17, 2012: Intel Ivy Bridge (IVB) desktop microprocessors were launched in
April of this year, and so far only Core i5 and i7 families were
transitioned to the new architecture. According to the launch
schedule, that we posted back in March,
Ivy-Bridge based Core i3 CPUs should be available in the third
quarter. We now have more details on the schedule. Based on
information, that we have on hand, Core i3-32xx products will be
released in the second week of September (the week that starts on
September 2nd). Along with Core i3s, Intel will introduce Pentium
G2100T and G2120 SKUs, also based on the Ivy Bridge core.
Embedded Intel Pentium G2120 CPU is in the works
Mar 13, 2012: We're more than a month away from the launch of the first Ivy
Bridge processors, however we know a lot about them. Processor
numbers, prices, details and performance estimates of Core i7 and i5
lineups were leaked at the end of last year. Specifications of Core i3
models were reported last month. We are still in the dark about Ivy
Bridge-based desktop Pentiums, but we can guess some of
their features based on specifications of forthcoming embedded Pentium
G2120, that we just learned about.
