Intel Pentium Mobile B960 - FF8062700997701
Specifications
Intel Pentium B960 is the third in the line of mainstream Mobile
Pentium processors, built on Sandy Bridge microarchitecture. The
CPU was discovered in early September 2011 in specifications of Acer
Aspire 3750Z and HP Pavilion g6-1213 notebooks, and launched in early October 2011
along with several mobile microprocessors from Core and Pentium families. The B960 is
aimed at value mobile market, and its performance is good enough for most
types of office applications, like documentation and e-mails, and for
casual gaming.
Intel B960 incorporates two CPU cores, operating at 2.2 GHz. Each
core on this part has dedicated 64 KB L1 and 256 KB L2 caches,
and both cores share 2 MB level 3 cache. As all Sandy Bridge
processors, Pentium B960 integrates several other components in
addition to CPU cores and L3 cache:
- DDR3 memory controller, which is used to access system
memory.
- On-chip graphics controller, or graphics processing unit (GPU),
is used to handle standard-definition and HD video. The controller
lacks more advanced features, found in Core i3, i5 and i7 families,
such as 3D acceleration, Clear Video HD and Quick Sync technologies.
To improve video and overall system performance, the GPU connects
directly to the last level cache.
- Direct Media Interface (DMI) is used for communications between
the CPU and peripheral devices. The DMI on the B960 model has
transfer speed 5 GT/s, and it's twice as fast compared to previous
generation of Westmere-based Pentium CPUs.
While more advanced Core-branded Sandy Bridge processors come with
numerous technologies and extensions to instruction set, several of
these features are disabled on Pentium B960. The list of unsupported
features includes AES and AVX instructions,
HyperThreading technology, Virtualization and Turbo Boost. The CPU does support all
basic-level features, such as Execute disable bit and ability to run
64-bit operating systems and applications.
Low-power features on the Pentium B960 are not different from more
expensive models. The microprocessor has 35 Watt Thermal Design
Power, and is manufactured in a micro-PGA package, compatible with
socket G2.

Intel introduces Pentium 957 and B960, and Core mobile CPUs
Oct 04, 2011: Prior to last refresh of Intel Core i7 Mobile family, which happened one month
ago, we published a story with an estimated launch date for Core
i3-2430M and Core i7-2670QM microprocessors. Based on information,
that the processors will be available before October 4, we assumed
that they will be released in September along with Core i7-2640M and
three new quad-core Core i7 models. As we already know, our assumption
was wrong. However, our information was right, and the chips were
introduced this week, i.e. before or on October 4.
Intel Pentium B960 CPU is in the works
Sep 02, 2011: Less than a week remains for the next refresh of Intel mobile
processor line-up. So far we confirmed release of
Celeron B840 and
4 Core i7 models. There are also several additional CPUs in the
"likely to launch" list, that includes Core i3-2350M,
Core i5-2430M, i5-2435M, Core i7-2670QM and i7-2675QM.
Today we came across yet
another Intel mobile processor, that may be introduced this month. Not
yet released Intel Pentium B960 was spotted in specifications of
Acer Aspire 3750Z and HP Pavilion g6-1213tx notebooks.
