Intel rolls out Xeon E5-1600 and E5-2600 CPUs
Mar 07, 2012: Intel yesterday introduced Romley server platform for single- and
dual-socket workstations and servers. The platform is going to replace
Tylersburg platform with Xeon 5600 series processors, that were on the
market since March 2010. Yesterday's launch included C600 series
"Patsburg" chipset, and Xeon E5-1600 or E5-2600
chips, based on "Sandy Bridge-EP" core, and utilizing socket R (socket
2011). More Xeon E5 microprocessors are expected in the second
quarter, when the Romley platform will be expanded with E5-2400 and
E5-4600 CPUs.
Launch schedule of Intel Xeon E5 microprocessors
Oct 10, 2011: Last week there were plenty of news stories regarding soon to be
released AMD server microprocessors, built on "Bulldozer"
micro-architecture. As you may know, Intel also planned to introduce
new server processors, branded as Xeon E5, in the fourth quarter.
In September, during Intel Developer Forum event in San Francisco, new
information came to light implying that Xeon E5 launch is postponed
until the first quarter 2012.
Prices of Intel Xeon E5-1600 series CPUs
Sep 19, 2011: In July we published details of three new Xeon E5 models for
single-processor servers and workstations. New Xeon E5s, coming in the
4th quarter 2011, will be based on upcoming Sandy Bridge-EP core, and
their specifications will be almost identical to consumer Core i7-3xxx
chips with Sandy Bridge-E core. Core i7-3xxx microprocessors will be
priced from $294 to $999, and it's not a surprise that the prices of
Xeon E5-16xx products will be close to prices of consumer Core i7s.
Details on Intel Xeon E5-1600 series processors
Jul 28, 2011: This year Intel already launched two lines of Xeon E-branded
microprocessors, E3 for one-way servers, and E7 for multi-processor
systems. In the 4th quarter of this year Intel will introduce yet
another E-branded series, Xeon E5. The E5 line will be comprised of
four families, E5-1600, E5-2400, E5-2600, and E5-4600.
Intel Xeon E5-1600 and E5-2600 processor details
May 04, 2011: Three months ago, we published a story, that included
high-level details on four different Xeon E5 families. Two of
these families, E5-1600 and E5-2600, are scheduled to launch in the
forth quarter 2011. Initially, the Xeon processors, coupled with C600
series (Patsburg-B) chipset, will be introduced as part of Romley
platform.
