Intel discontinues E3-1200 and 5600 series Xeon CPUs
Jun 09, 2013: Intel this week published a few Product Change Notifications (PCNs), informing customers about upcoming discontinuation of Xeon 5600 series and E3-1200 series microprocessors. Additionally, the company is going to retire two mobile parts from Core i5 family. The last order date for all CPUs is December 27, 2013.

Intel launches Xeon 5600 series and Core i7-990X CPUs
Feb 14, 2011: One week ago we published a story regarding refresh of quad-core and six-core Xeon microprocessors from 5600 series, coming on February 14. As expected, today Intel updated Xeon 5600 family with 9 new microprocessors, and introduced non-embedded version of Xeon E5645. Also today, Intel launched Core i7-990X, new flagship CPU with unlocked clock multiplier for computer enthusiasts, and Xeon W3690 for single-socket workstations.

Intel Xeon 5600 refresh is scheduled for February 14
Feb 07, 2011: With the upcoming releases of Intel Xeon E3 family on February 20, and Xeon E7 CPUs in the next quarter, Intel is going to improve performance of their uni-processor and multi-processor segments of the server market. Mid-class processors for 2-socket servers, which are currently represented by Xeon 5600 family, are going to be replaced by Xeon E5 series only in the forth quarter of this year. The E5 CPUs from E5-2600 series will be coupled with C600 chipset, and they will be compatible with socket R. Before E5 microprocessors are launched, we will see at least one refresh of the Xeon 5600 series. In fact, this refresh will happen in a week, on February 14.

EUROCOM adds Xeon X5690 to Panther mobile server, then delays it
Nov 01, 2010: Approximately a week ago many hardware sites reported availability of not-yet released Intel Xeon X5690 microprocessor in the D900F Panther mobile server from EUROCOM. The availability of upcoming Xeon was short-lived, and, after a few days, the Xeon X5690 was taken down from the list of configurable processors.
