  • The Core i5-4200U uses more efficient Haswell core. When running at the same clock speed, it has 11% on average better performance than Sandy Bridge processors.
  • The i5-4200U processor includes AVX2 and FMA3 instructions, introduced in the recent past. Although these extensions are not widely used in applications yet, their support should improve in future apps.
  • The Intel Core i5-4200U CPU is 57% more energy efficient.

i5-2520M vs i5-4200U specifications comparison

The graphs below compare the most important Core i5-4200U and Core i5-2520M characteristics. These features, along with an IPC (instructions per cycle) number, determine how well a microprocessor performs. The "Number of cores / threads" graph displays the number of cores (darker area). Lighter area on the graph represents the number of extra threads, offered by Hyper-Threading technology. The "Operating frequency" chart uses dark color to represent base frequency, whereas lighter area is for additional frequency, provided by Turbo feature. Darker area on the "On-chip cache" graph is for the On-chip L2 cache. Lighter area is for the L3 cache cache. While the L3 cache cache is usually larger than the On-chip L2 cache, it is always slower.
