  • The processor supports FMA3 and XOP instructions. These extensions are not widely supported by applications yet, however their support should improve in future programs.
  • The CPU incorporates FMA4 instruction set extension. Only AMD processors offer this technology, for that reason it may not get broad support from software vendors.
  • The processor is unlocked. The CPU can be freely overclocked on most motherboards to achieve higher performance. Be aware that overclocking voids warranty of the microprocessor.
  • Based on current official prices, the CPU is 47% less expensive than the Intel Core i3-3220.

Benchmarks

System setup

Below is a complete set of AMD A6-6400K and Intel Core i3-3220 benchmarks from our CPU benchmark database. The former processor was tested on ASRock FM2A75 Pro4-M motherboard with 4GB dual-channel Crucial BallistixPC3-14900 (DDR3-1866) memory, and MSI R6670 1GB GDDR5 (ATI Radeon). The latter processor was tested on ASUS P8H61-M motherboard, that had 2 GB dual-channel Corsair CM3X1024-1333C9 DDR3 memory, and Integrated on-chip Intel Sandy Bridge graphics.

All tests were performed at default frequency and voltage, using manufacturer's stock fan/heatsink. None of the components were overclocked. Motherboard BIOS options were left at default settings.

The results of all benchmarks are broken into four categories: multi-threaded, single-threaded, memory intensive and graphics / gaming.

Single-threaded benchmarks run on a single CPU core, and do not depend on such features as the number of cores, or Hyper-Threading technology. Additionally, they do not utilize on-chip caches, dedicated to other cores.
