AMD A8-5550M advantages

  • More CPU cores on the A8-5550M help to tackle multiple threads or applications at once.
  • The microprocessor offers higher operating frequency than the Intel i5-4200U CPU.
  • This processor features F16C and XOP instructions, that appeared in modern processors not too far ago. These extensions are not broadly used in programs yet, however their support should improve in future apps.
  • The A8-5550M has FMA4 instruction set extension enabled. The FMA4 technology is only offered on AMD microprocessors, thus not many software vendors may support it in the future.
  • The AMD A8-5550M fits into Socket FS1 (FS1r2). The microprocessor can be easily removed from the socket for upgrade or replacement.

  • The i5-4200U incorporates AVX2 instructions, that were introduced in the recent past. These extensions are not extensively supported by applications yet, but this should improve in future apps.
  • The microprocessor is 57% more energy efficient than the A8-5550M CPU.
