AMD FX-4100 advantages



AMD FX-4100
  • In multi-threaded tasks, the microprocessor is about 4% faster. The difference in performance is task specific. In some of them this CPU could be up to 19% faster.
  • Memory performance of the processor is better.
  • The microprocessor has AES, or Advanced Encryption Standard, instructions. This extension provides hardware acceleration of AES encryption and decryption, and is beneficial if you run applications, that secure your disk or network data.
  • The AMD FX-4100 CPU features XOP instructions. Even though these extensions are not widely used by programs yet, their support should improve in future apps.
  • The AMD FX-4100 microprocessor has FMA4 instruction set extension enabled. Only AMD CPUs offer this technology, for that reason it probably will not get broad support from software vendors.
  • The CPU is unlocked. The processor can be freely overclocked on most motherboards to achieve higher performance. Be aware that overclocking can void microprocessor warranty.
  • The official price of the FX-4100 is considerably lower than the price of the Intel i3-3220T processor.
  • The microprocessor has 21% better price/performance ratio.

Benchmarks

System setup

Below is a complete set of AMD FX-4100 and Intel Core i3-3220T benchmarks from our CPU benchmark database. The former processor was tested on ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard with 4GB dual-channel Crucial BallistixPC3-14900 (DDR3-1866) memory, and MSI R6670 1GB GDDR5 (ATI Radeon). The latter processor was tested on ASUS P8H61-M motherboard, that had 2 GB dual-channel Corsair CM3X1024-1333C9 DDR3 memory, and Integrated on-chip Intel Sandy Bridge graphics.

All tests were performed at default frequency and voltage, using manufacturer's stock fan/heatsink. None of the components were overclocked. Motherboard BIOS options were left at default settings.

The results of all benchmarks are broken into four categories: multi-threaded, single-threaded, memory intensive and graphics / gaming.


FX-4100 vs Intel Core i3-3220T single-threaded benchmarks

Single-threaded benchmarks run on a single CPU core, and do not depend on such features as the number of cores, or Hyper-Threading technology. Additionally, they do not utilize on-chip caches, dedicated to other cores.

Graphics benchmarks depend on the type of integrated or discrete graphics adapter, and to less extent on the processor performance. Because these benchmarks are synthetic, they may not truly represent gaming performance.
