AMD A8-3870K
  • Multi-threaded performance of the CPU is better. The performance advantage depends on specific program. In some of them this microprocessor could be up to 14% faster.
  • Memory performance of the CPU is better.
  • The AMD A8-3870K processor has 3DNow! technology enabled. While the 3DNow! instructions may increase performance of certain old games, they are now obsolete, and they are not utilized by modern applications.
  • The A8-3870K is not "locked". The microprocessor can be freely overclocked on most motherboards to get greater performance. Be warned that overclocking voids warranty of the CPU.
  • Besides 4 CPU cores, the microprocessor includes Radeon HD 6550D Graphics Processing Unit. This graphics can be used for casual gaming and 3D apps.

System setup

AMD A8-3870K and Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 processors were tested using different system components, that are identified by MB, RAM and VID columns in the tables below. The numbers in each of these columns correspond to one of motherboards (MB), memory configurations (RAM) or graphics adapters (VID), listed below:

All tests were performed at default frequency and voltage, using manufacturer's stock fan/heatsink. None of the components were overclocked. Motherboard BIOS options were left at default settings.
