  • The Intel i3-4130 includes SSE4.2 instructions.
  • The microprocessor features Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) extension to the instruction set. This technology accelerates AES encryption and decryption, and is useful if you need to protect your disk or network data.
  • The Core i3-4130 supports AVX, AVX2, F16C and FMA3 instructions, that were introduced in modern CPUs not too far ago. These extensions are not broadly supported by programs yet, but their support should improve in future apps.

Benchmarks

System setup

Below is a complete set of Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 and Core i3-4130 benchmarks from our CPU benchmark database. The former processor was tested on ASRock 4Core1600Twins-P35 motherboard with 2 GB dual-channel Corsair CM3X1024-1333C9 DDR3 memory, and Powercolor 24PRO256M DDR2 (ATI Radeon HD2400). The latter processor was tested on Intel DH87RL motherboard, that had 2 GB dual-channel Corsair TR3X3G1600C9 DDR3 memory, and MSI R6670 1GB GDDR5 (ATI Radeon) graphics.

All tests were performed at default frequency and voltage, using manufacturer's stock fan/heatsink. None of the components were overclocked. Motherboard BIOS options were left at default settings.

The results of all benchmarks are broken into four categories: multi-threaded, single-threaded, memory intensive and graphics / gaming.


Core 2 Quad Q9400 vs Core i3-4130 single-threaded benchmarks

Single-threaded benchmarks run on a single CPU core, and do not depend on such features as the number of cores, or Hyper-Threading technology. Additionally, they do not utilize on-chip caches, dedicated to other cores.
