The Covington core was introduced on April 15, 1998. This core is based on P6 microarchitecture.

Celeron processors with Covington core can be identified by:

  • Part number: part number contains "80523R".
    An example: BX80523R300000.
  • CPU ID: Processors with the Covington core have CPU identification numbers 650 and 651. Please note that Pentium II Xeon CPUs with Drake core and Pentium II processors with Deschutes core have the same CPU IDs.
  • Cache size: Only Celeron processors with Covington core didn't have level 2 cache.
