Hi johnorun,
Yes, thank you for asking, I need to update info about that too. So far I have just date defined; 14-16 November.
People are on vacation now... but September is close enough and I hope, soon, I will be able to tell you more about this.
I am thinking on you about that, don't worry. I will be more than happy to see you all here. _________________ www.chipmuseum.com |

Thank you hugo929
Regarding how rare this is I agree with what you sad but regarding value... it depends what buyer looking for... you never know what can happen _________________ www.chipmuseum.com |

The IEEE-Xplore says the MM5700 is a 4bit arithmetic unit and
the MM5701's are register units / shift register!
MM5702 static switches
MM5705 and 5703 RAM and ROM
MM5704 keyboard interface |
Thanks much doccybrown!
Can you send me this document (you have my e-mail) if it is available to you. Actually I don't need whole document, just part where those chips are mentioned. (I will not publish this, just want them for my reference)
Regarding the date code, yes, NS have three digits date code on his early chips. First one is year (last digit of the year) and other two are weeks. So, 137 means 1971 year, 37 week.
( why I am typing this when you know this much better then me...)
Once again, THANK YOU! _________________ www.chipmuseum.com |

1974 8-bit chipset IMP-8
1975 16-bit single chip PACE

off on a tangent, came across this
| Quote: | | In 1968 Garrett was invited to produce a digital computer to compete with electromechanical systems then under development for the main flight control computer in the US Navy's new F-14 Tomcat fighter. The design was complete by 1970, and used a MOS-based chipset as the core CPU. The design was smaller and much more reliable than the mechanical systems it competed against, and was used in all of the early Tomcat models. However the system was considered so advanced that the Navy refused to allow publication of the design, and continued to refuse until 1997. For this reason the CADC, and the MP944 chipset it used, are fairly unknown even today. |

Hi Neon_WA,
Yes, this chip missing wherever you try to find them... It must be some reasonable explanation for that. (I have theory/assumption [see my reply to Genna] but... this NS '72 data-book will probably bring more light on this.) _________________ www.chipmuseum.com |

For example, MM5734 is a 8-function calculator with memory, MM5758 is a scientific calculator, MM5760 is a slide-rule calculator. They are single-chip calculators, and I suspect that earlier MM5700 devices were multi-chip calculators.
Edit Correction. I suspect the chip was designed as a milti-chip calculator, but, perhaps, the chip could be used for much more than a calculator. Just like Intel 4004.

Tahnk you Gennadiy,
Yes, it's pretty similar to what I assumed. It is my opinion that this is second (and judging by date-code, seems to be the first) successful attempt to define the necessary components of a simple computing system first (arithmetic / logic unit, in / out units, RAM, ROM), and after that, one can go in integration of those pre-defined single chip units... creating chips you mentioned...
I think the designer / manager who designed the chipset MM570x actually had the same idea as Ted Hoff have when it comes to the MCS-4. The difference appears only in the fact that the Intel chipset has been offered to a broad market and NS chipset has not. NS 570x chipset have been integrated in few different ways (for few different calculators)... and forgotten.
We will see what say this NS '72 data-book. I hope...
In any case, thank you very much for the information and your opinion. _________________ www.chipmuseum.com |

Nice find Drag |
Thank you Michael,
Yes, 5704, according to this what doccybrown have found, is keyboard interface. You were right. _________________ www.chipmuseum.com |
