i have just been sorting some of my common ceramic pentiums and one of my SY016 didnt seem right.
As im not experienced with the markings it was two other facts that make me suspicious
1. The ceramic is slightly thinner than all the others
2. The top surface is a lot smoother than the others
I scrubbed at the bottom markings & there is nothing different below.
So you learnered collectors.. is it possible that intel remarked the processor.. or just a good fake.. but why fake a common 166?
so is there anything in the markings that isnt right?
i wont muddy the waters with which one is thinner/smoother till i get some feedback
thx for ur time _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

Sometimes font and color can vary depending on the production country (Philippines, Malay, USA...). But if ceramic of one of your chip is thinner than all other, it's quite possible that your chip is a fake. _________________ My microprocessor collection: The Gecko's CPU Library |

I've noticed wide variations in the colour of ceramic - one country (can't remember - chips are not in front of me, maybe Malaysia) has very light coloured ceramic that looks like somebody has painted them.
Must be the differences in the clay or other raw ingredients in that country. |
