Hello,
I have an old computer but it is configured just the way I want it and I would rather not update at this time. When I tried to turn in on I get an audible message saying the CPU failed the start of test or something like that.
The MB is an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe and the CPU I'm needing to replace is an AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor - Socket 754. Website says I can use any of the chips below.
Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket754)
Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket754)
Athlon 64 3200+ (Socket754)
Athlon 64 3200+ (Socket754, revE6)
Athlon 64 3400+ (Socket754)
Athlon 64 3700+ (Socket754)
I'm hoping someone can help me bring this dinosaur back to life.
Thanks.

unusual for a CPU to fail while on a motherboard
if you have had it while.. you may want to check the heatsink/fan isnt blocked with dust
or any obvious scorch marks on the board
its more likely the power supply is dodgy than the CPU
worth having a closer look and also confirm in manual for causes for the message you are getting _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

did a search for "ASUS K8V SE Deluxe CPU failed the start of test"
and 7 of the 10 reasons for this message was that the power supply had failed in some way
and none of the other reasons were actually due to CPU failing _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

I have an ADA3200AEP4AX that is compatible with your motherboard and was working when I removed it from a system I dismantled a few weeks ago. If after checking other options you find it is a processor you need, I will sell it for £10 (approx $15.60 at today's rates) shipped to you by regular airmail. If you want tracked it will cost extra... _________________ OMG, I finally found out what's wrong with my brain:

| Thank you everyone for your responses. How do I check the PSU? The fans come on for the PSU and the one on top of the CPU. I realize it could still be going bad. It's a 350W SmartPower ATX 12V. The computer is 7 years old and it just started failing giving the cpu failed on startup message. It did it a few times when I had turned off the system due to storms but if I tried the power button a few times it would finally turn on. I'm guessing replacing the power supply will be easier then the CPU chip. Thanks for any advice you can provide. Happy Thanksgiving! |
