AMD Athlon XP/MP, Sempron and Athlon 64 model numbers

Model numbers of Athlon XP/MP/64 processors indicate processor's performance relative to Pentium 4 line of processors. Model numbers for AMD Sempron processors are relative to Intel Celeron family of processors. The model numbers are written as:

<number>+

The number is basically a Pentium 4 megahertz rating. The model number always includes trailing '+' character to distinguish it from real processor frequency.

The main reason for using model numbers is that the processor performance does not only depend from the processor frequency, it also depends on other processor features, such as FSB (front-side bus) speed, L2 cache size, microprocessor architecture and other CPU features. As the Athlon, and especially Athlon 64 CPU family significantly outperforms the Pentium 4 processors at the same clock frequency, comparing only processor frequency puts AMD processors in disadvantage. Using model numbers for processor comparison makes comparison process more fair. Please note that because model numbers are based on benchmarks of wide range of applications, they should be treated only as an approximation of the processor performance. There are always applications that will perform faster or slower than processor's rated performance.

My own 1700+ JUIHB overclocked to 2533mhz stable. pretty good when taking under consideration the fact that it was 1466mhz stock.
the thing is that i was able to punp the fsb only up to ~220mhz as my RAM would die any higher and running in asynchronous mode (other than 1:1 FAm:FSB) would produce a lot of errors or just waste good ol' megahertz.
JUIHB was pretty good downclocker as well, when running at ~950mhz 1.07V only a proper copper heatspeader was enough to keep the temp below 48'C.
the only thing that one needed was a really good mainboard, nForce2Ultra400 was a must

The Barton cored 2000's are a different stepping to the T Bred and Palomino and it seems AMD had a plethora of these odd chips out there such as the oddity 2000+ mentioned above, the 2800+ Duron, 1400+ Palomino etc etc

Also some T Bred AIUGA 1700+ XP CPU's are really 2000+ XP AIUGA CPU's chucked in a 1700 box by AMD. Indeed many an AMD chip is another downgraded. All T Bred's up to a certain date are also mulitplier unlocked as are all XP-M's (I overclocked my FQQ4C 2600+ to a PR rating of 4400+

The even odder 1700+ JUIHB T Bred AMD chip is notorious in that overclockers can make it quite easily outclock a 3200+ XP and many people have reported back getting a real time not PR of 2500Mhz with a 12.5x200 FSB and setting the voltage higher than normal for the core, it is also necessary to have a fast nForce2 board and quality DDR400, the current fastest stable clocked JUIHB 1700 is at 2700Mhz.
