    4. Frequency (MHz) or frequency identifier
Numbers above 200 are processor frequencies in MHz.
Numbers below 200 can be used to identify processor frequency, but there is no easy way to convert them to frequency. For a rough estimate of frequency in GHz use formula "(number + 39) / 40". For instance, for "083" estimated frequency will be (83 + 39) / 40 = 3.05 GHz.

Note to the table above:

It is possible to break the item "CPU family and Microprocessor core" into two pieces - 5-digit core technology and one-letter CPU class, but this results in much less accurate identification.

5-digit core technology code can be used to identify base core and manufacturing process. In some cases it's not possible to tell correct CPU core just knowing the 5-digit code. For instance, 80528 Pentium 4s and 80528 Xeons have different core names.

CPU class can be used to distinguish between desktop/mobile, and server/workstation/budget processors. Here is how the most common CPU classes can be decoded:

  • G - high-performance mobile processor (Mobile Pentium II/III/M, Core 2 Duo mobile)
  • K - server-class processor (Xeon)
  • N - budget mobile processor (Mobile Celeron, Celeron M)
  • P - workstation-class processor (Pentium, Core 2 Duo)
  • R - budget processor (Celeron)
Unfortunately, some Intel processors do not conform to these conventions. For instance, mobile Pentium II processors should have CPU class "G", but they actually have class "K" in their part number.
