Intel launches Moorestown platform

Today Intel introduced new platform, codenamed Moorestown, consisting of Platform Controller Hub (PCH) and Atom Z600-series highly-integrated microprocessors. The PCH integrates crypto engine, 24-bit audio, high-speed USB and wireless. Z600-series processors, which are classified by Intel as "system-on-a-chip" (SoC), incorporate Atom CPU core, GMA 600 graphics controller with hardware acceleration for HD video encoding/decoding, and single-channel LPDDR1/DDR2 integrated memory controller. The Z6xx devices feature HyperThreading technology, Burst Performance Technology, which is to a certain degree similar to Turbo Boost or Dynamic Acceleration technologies, and Smart Idle technology. The SoCs are manufactured in 1.38 x 13.8 mm BGA package.

Target markets for the Z6xx-series are smartphones, handhelds and tablets. Smartphone and handhelp Z6xx devices chips operate at frequencies up to 1.5 GHz, and Z6xx SoCs for tablets run up to 1.9 GHz. So far known models of Z6xx devices are Z600, Z605, Z610, Z612, Z615, Z620 and Z625.
