AMD launches Danube and Nile platformIt's been a busy week for AMD. Yesterday AMD added 6 new desktop Athlon II processors, and today they launched mainstream and ultrathin notebook platforms. Two microprocessor families shipped with these mobile platforms were rebranded - "Turion II Ultra" family was changed to "Phenom II", and "V Series" family replaced "Sempron Mobile". According to a footnote in AMD's press release, this year PC manufacturers are going to launch 109 laptops based on mainstream "Danube" platform, and 26 notebooks/netbooks based on ultrathin "Nile" platform. Mainstream platform, codenamed Danube, consists from AMD M880G chipset with integrated Radeon HD 4250 graphics, and 12 microprocessors, ranging from single-core V series V120 to Quad-Core Phenom II X920 Black Edition:
All microprocessors in the mainstream platform have 1.8 GHz HyperTransport link frequency. Phenom II and Turion II Mobile families feature 128-bit wide Floating Point Unit, while Athlon II and V series processors have 64-bit FPU. Phenom II CPUs support DDR3-1333 memory, and other families support DDR3-1066. All mainstream mobile processors are manufactured in 638-pin micro-PGA package, and require yet another variation of socket S1 - S1g4. Ultrathin "Nile" platform consists from AMD M880G chipset and the following 5 processors:
Turion II line of ultrathin processors has 128-bit wide FPU and 1.6 GHz HyperTransport link. Athlon II and V series ultrathin CPUs have 64-bit wide FPU and 1 GHz HT frequency. All microprocessors on ultrathin platform support DDR3-1066 memory. All ultrathin processors are manufactured in BGA packages. More information
