Phenom II X6 1035T shipped in Dell desktop computers
Last week Dell announced Studio XPS 7100 high-performance multimedia computer. We do not publish announcements of new computers, unless the computers include hard-to-find or previously unreleased processors. In this case, the processor is a Phenom II X6 1035T, which release was believed to be pushed back into the third quarter. Besides the 1035T, the XPS 7100 computer may be customized to use a number of quad-core and six-core models from Athlon II X4 630 to Phenom II X6 1055T. Motherboard in this computer utilizes AMD RS785 chipset with SB710 South Bridge. The system comes with integrated ATI Radeon HD4200 graphics, but it's also possible to improve system performance by adding one of a few different Radeon HD 5xxx 1GB video cards.
The starting price of the Dell Studio XPS 7100 is $499 for Athlon II X4 630 processor and without extra video card, and $699 for Phenom II X6 1035T CPU with ATI HD5450 1 GB video card. The price difference, displayed on the system customization screen on Dell's website, can be used to estimate the price of Phenom II X6 1035T microprocessor. Replacing Phenom II X4 945 with 1035T CPU adds $60 to system price, and replacing it with six-core 1055T adds $110. Official CPU prices at this moment are:
Phenom II X4 945 - $145
Phenom II X6 1055T - $199
Estimated price of the 1035T is 145 + ((199 - 145) * 60 / 110) = $174.
It's not obvious whether the Phenom II X6 1055T model in this computer is 95 Watt or 125 Watt. Although computer specifications state support for 125 Watt processors, the XPS 7100 doesn't come with Phenom II X6 1090T 125W CPU, and it's not clear how well system's 460 Watt power supply will handle 125 Watt CPU and ATI HD 5870 video card, which can draw up to 188 Watt by itself.
