Intel discontinues mobile Q9000, Q9100, X9100 and QX9300 CPUs

In two recently published Product Change Notification documents, Intel informed its customers about planned discontinuance of Core 2 Quad Q9000 and Q9100, and Core 2 Extreme X9100 and QX9300 microprocessors. The last date, when these models can be ordered, is March 25, 2011, and the last shipment date of OEM version of these processors is September 30, 2011. Boxed version of the quad-core Q9000 will be shipped while supplies last.

All discontinued mobile models were introduced in 2008. Core 2 Extreme X9100 was launched in July 2008, and it featured two cores, 3.06 GHz core frequency with unlocked clock multiplier, and 6 MB L2 cache. It was followed by Q9100 and QX9300 quad-core microprocessors in August 2008. These models were clocked at 2.26 GHz and 2.53 GHz respectively, and they had twice larger size of L2 cache. Finally, quad-core mobile Q9000 was launched in December 2008. This model had much lower price than the Q9100 at the expense of inferior CPU features - 2 GHz frequency and 6 MB L3 cache. All four discontinued models had 45 Watt power dissipation, and all four were the top performing CPUs for socket P platforms.
